2018 Preseason All-State Showcase Analysis: Class of 2019 Position Players

94 prospects showcased their abilities over the two days of the 2018 Preseason All-State Showcase. 
Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at position players in the Class of 2019.

Top Prospects

Julian BaileyJulian Bailey, 2019, C, Dallastown Area
5-foot-10, 185-pound backstop impressed defensively with advanced arm strength and the athleticism to defend early at the next level. Showcased pop times of 1.98-2.06 on throws of 81 mph from the crouch. Quiet receiver with quick feet and clean transition stays directional and utilizes a short arm stroke. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride. Deep hands load leads to some length in the swing. Registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity and displayed average feel for the barrel. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash.

Cameron BartoCameron Barto, 2019, SS, Lancaster Catholic
5-foot-11, 160-pound switch-hitter displayed a much improved stroke from the left side during an impressive round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Starts from a slightly open stance from both sides and utilizes a simple knee-to-knee stride to initiate his hands. Added strength gives him to create more lift and power potential from the left side while the right-hand swing remains directional and line-drive oriented. Also showcased improved foot speed while running a 6.67 60-yard dash and fluid defensive actions with 81 mph arm strength across the diamond from multiple arm angles.

Albert ChoiAlbert Choi, 2019, OF, Downingtown East
5-foot-11, 160-pound prospect likely improved his stock more than any other player in attendance. Showcased fast-twitch actions in everything he did starting with running an event best 6.48 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Displayed quick hands, a strong lower half and an above average feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Moves well in the outfield and routinely plays through the baseball with accurate 86 mph arm strength.

John McNameeJohn McNamee, 2019, 1B, Holy Ghost Prep
6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance an initiates his swing from a deep load position by incorporating a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased solid balance and above average feel for the barrel with present power to the pull side with a bat exit velocity of 92 mph. Displayed active feet and quality glove actions around the bag at first base with good carry on throws of 82 mph across the diamond. The Rider commit ran a 7.85 60-yard dash.

Tom SnipesTom Snipes, 2019, SS, Williams Penn Charter
6-foot, 190-pound left-handed hitter impressed with an above average feel for the barrel and present power to the pull side. Starts from a deep, low-hands load and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed solid balance, an ability to stay behind the baseball and a flat path through the hitting zone. Showcased confidence in his glove hand defensively while routinely playing through the baseball with accurate 84 mph arm strength across the diamond. Completed a well-rounded day by running a 7.03 60-yard dash.

Mason WalkerMason Walker, 2019, 3B, Red Land
6-foot-3, 195-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed above average balance with an ability to create back spin with current power to the pull side. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 7.28 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and athletic actions defensively with accurate 84 mph arm strength across the diamond. Long frame moves well enough to envision a move to the corner outfield or across the diamond if needed at the next level.

JD Armstrong, 2019, SS, Pine-Richland
6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect has added two inches and 10 pounds to his frame in the past six months. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short leg-hang stride. Showcased a feel for the barrel with an ability to create back spin and a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Displayed an ability make plays on the move defensively while making throws from multiple arm slots. Showed body control in making the slow roller play and accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Jeffrey Billig, 2019, OF, Avon Grove
5-foot-9, 155-pound left-handed hitter ran one of the top 60-yard dash times of the two day event at 6.69. The left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased quick hands with a direct swing path and a solid feel for the barrel with an ability to use all fields. Registered an 80 mph bat exit velocity and displayed accurate 79 mph arm strength from his outfield position. Plays through the baseball routinely and shows the athleticism to handle all three outfield positions.

Ben DeMarco, 2019, SS, Manheim Township
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach with a direct swing path and a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 6.96 60-yard dash while still recovering from an ankle injury. Showcased active feet defensively while routinely playing through the baseball with 82 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Dan Dougherty, 2019, C, Malvern Prep
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a direct swing path with a solid feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Quiet receiver showcased pop times of 2.19-2.26 on throws of 75 mph from the crouch and ran a 7.28 60-yard dash. New glove on this date led to some transition issues but feet worked well and throws had good straight line carry.

Michael Franks, 2019, OF, Governor Mifflin
6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect ran an impressive 6.55 60-yard dash to start his day. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. A significant arm bar and limited lower half action in his swing leads to barrel drag with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Displayed raw actions defensively with room for development and 75 mph arm strength from a short arm throwing motion. Interesting prospect to follow with projectable frame and advanced foot speed.

Chase Hoecke, 2019, C, Dallastown
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a flat swing path through the hitting zone with solid balance and rhythm while routinely barreling the baseball with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Sound defender showcased pop times of 2.14-2.22 on throws of 69 mph from the crouch. Showed quick feet and a clean transition while consistently putting the ball on the bag. Completed well rounded performance by running a 7.06 60-yard dash.

Sean Lawley, 2019, SS, Archbishop Carroll
6-foot, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a line drive approach while routinely working inside the baseball with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Showcased active feet with a soft glove hand and a quick release defensively with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash.

Jared Moore, 2B, Owen J. Roberts
5-foot-8, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed the ability to routinely stay behind the baseball with a strong hip turn while creating some back spin. Showcased a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash and showed a defensive skill set best suited for second base with accurate 69 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Dawson Salisbury, 2019, OF, Southwestern
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Showcased an above average feel for the barrel while routinely squaring the baseball during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 6.94 60-yard dash and displayed athletic defensive actions while consistently playing through the baseball. Displayed accurate 78 mph arm strength.

Jason Smiley, 2019, OF, Spring-Ford
5-foot-9, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance an utilizes a short leg-hand stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a very short swing with an ability to create some back spin while routinely barreling the baseball to the pull side. Flashed some pull side power with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash and displayed fluid defensive actions defensively with accurate 79 mph arm strength from his outfield position.
