Stanford Blasts Oregon

EUGENE, OR—After seeing Oregon State Thursday night, the plan Friday was to hopefully see RHP Ryne Nelson (Oregon). He had thrown an inning Thursday night, but it was just 17 pitches so he could have come back for another outing. Stanford ruined that chance, putting up a five-spot in the first inning on the way to a 20-5 pummeling of Oregon.

RHP Will Matthiessen, 1B Andrew Dashbach and LF Brandon Wulff all had big games for the Cardinal. Matthiessen showed a four-pitch mix with an 88-90 fastball, slider, loopy curveball and low-80s changeup. He went five innings, allowing a run on two hits and four walks while striking out six. He also helped himself at the plate, hitting in the four hole and going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Dashbach has big right-handed power and hit two home runs in the game, one to straightaway center field and the other to right center. He hit another on Saturday to give him seven for the year. Wulff had a home run and double in the game, and hit four bombs in the series, giving him a season total of 12 so far.

C Maverick Handley (Stanford) also had a big day, 4-for-5 with a home run, while also showing off his strong arm behind the plate.
