October 8, 2019
The PBR Tournaments Arizona Fall Championships took place September 27-29th. Our staff provided must-read coverage throughout the weekend with in-depth daily scout blogs, which can be found here.
Last week, we begin our post-event coverage by taking a look at the top 2024 prospects. Today, we continue that coverage by taking a look at ten 2023 Prospects that caught our attention.
Garren Rizzo SS / RHP / Palos Verdes, CA / 2023Consistently delivered results - collecting hits, scoring runs and making plays at shortstop hitting in the leadoff spot for Trosky National. Has a clear plan in the box, middle-out approach without much swing/miss, as he showed with another hit back up the box to start the game. Seemingly on base all the time and scores run. Plays the game hard and under control. All-around baller on the field. ... has an advanced middle-away approach in the box as he delivered a pair of hits for Trosky National hitting out of the leadoff hole. Lean, athletic 5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitter, all-around solid baseball skills across the board. |
Nuri Todd SS / C / Brophy College Prep, AZ / 2023Premium, high-level athlete with big upside. Long-limbed, high-waisted 5-foot-11, 133-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. Possesses game-changing speed. Beat out a routine chopper to second base, 4.18 down the line. Three-sport athlete. Looks to be a high-level national prospect with more refinement. |
Zachary Wadas 1B / LHP / Brophy College Prep, AZ / 2023Highly projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitting first baseman who showcased loose hands. Currently has a rotational approach and has yet to fill into his long-limbed frame, but with continued physical development, he has the makings of a highly intriguing prospect.
|
Remington Robbins LHP / 1B / Riverton, UT / 2023Highly projectable 6-foot-3, 160-pound left-handed pitcher with long limbs and plenty of room to physically develop. Low-effort arm action and delivery, loose and easy out front coming out of a 3/4 slot. Fastball ranged between 75-78 mph; should see significant velocity gains down the road as he physically develops and incorporates his lower half. High-upside prospect to follow for USA Prime Mountain |
Zachary Justice C / 1B / Bishop O'Dowd, CA / 2023Has been a clear defensive standout for Trosky National. Moves well side to side, blocks well, steals strikes and sticks pitches. Fires out of the chute, directional footwork, above-average arm strength with pop times that ranged between 2.12-2.20.
|
Adolfo Sanchez LHP / Mountain Point, AZ / 2023High-follow prospect in the 2023 class. Came out of the pen for the Arizona Athletics Founders Club, and left a lasting impression during his one-inning stint. Thin, narrow-shouldered, young frame with a loose, highly athletic arm. Maintains excellent rhythm throughout low-effort delivery, arm works free and easily in the back, athletic, loose and quick out front. Fastball ranged between 78-80 with slight arm-side run - plenty more in the tank as he physically matures. Only threw a few breaking balls, but they were advanced. Showed potential to be a true putaway pitch, 68-70 mph, power slurve shape, tight spin, back-footed a right-handed hitter for a strikeout.
|
Frank Estrada SS / Kasier, CA / 2023stands out with his loose, easy, natural infield actions and athletic arm in the field for MVP Hustle. Similarly in the box, he showcased loose, whippy hands that generates more bat speed than his young, thin 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame would indicate. Stands in the box with moxie, and looks to get his swing off early. As he physically develops, Estrada shows potential of being a high-follow prospect in the 2023 class. |
Grant Govel / Palos Verdes, CA / 2023Came in first relief for Trosky Baseball that might have been one of the more intriguing arms of the day. From a large athletic build, Govel sat 81-83mph with hard 2 seam action. Delivery seemed more natural and easy than any other pitcher on the day. His 12/6 CV has a chance to be an above average pitch if thrown with same conviction as FB. Lower half stays closed nicely throughout delivery. |
Owen Wade SS / RHP / Pinnacle, AZ / 2023Stood out early in their contest vs. TCA Black. The 6-foot 160-pound. shortstop, has broad shoulders and room to grow. Starting from a taller set-up, Wade displayed quick hands, while lacing the first pitch of the game back up the box. The AZ Athletics prospect, showed balanced set-up, from a slightly open stance. Looked to have advance knowledge of the strike zone, while displaying good pitch recognition. Had another loud out in the contest. Easy to see power developing, as he ages. |
Landon Penney LHP / Brophy College Prep, AZ / 2023Had one of the more aggressive approaches that we saw at Red Mountain. He had a solid approach and didnt get cheated. He also had one of the more physical bodies and level of strength we saw in the grad class. He consistently barreled the ball up all day. He his from a semi wide base with a closed off upper body, loading into an arm bar. He pitched in game 1 struggling early but bouncing back and settling in with short arm action. |
