Inside The Rankings - MacLean, Hunter, Paustian, Holder
April 24, 2020
Without a spring season in 2020, we’re left to wonder ‘what could have been’ on a wide array of storylines. Would teams be able to defend their titles from 2019? Which underdogs would become contenders? Who would be the breakout players of 2020? Which top prospects would continue their dominance and end their careers on a high note? Unfortunately we won’t be getting those answers.
While we wait for baseball to return, we thought it was a good time to go through our newly updated rankings and give more in-depth analysis and insight on the top players in the state.
At this point, it’s no surprise to anyone that RHP Mick Abel (Jesuit) sits at the top of our 2020 state rankings. He also comes it at #3 overall in our national rankings and #10 on our draft board for PBR Draft HQ. Although we won’t have the opportunity to see Abel and other top seniors this spring, it’s nearly impossible to imagine someone would have been able to supplant him for the #1 spot. But how would the remaining prospects in the top 5 have played out if there wasn’t a bona-fide 1st round talent ahead of them?
On our first dive “Inside the Rankings”, we break down LHP Dylan MacLean (Central Catholic), RHP Jaren Hunter (Barlow), C Logan Paustian (La Grande) and RHP Taylor Holder (Crescent Valley) and discuss how each could have made a run at the #1 spot in any other year.
Here's my take…
