Ontario Scout Blog: Uncommitted Seniors
January 24, 2024
The calendar has finally flipped to 2024 and teams are preparing to head South in 6-7 weeks to begin the year with their respective Spring Trainings. Over the past several months, names from the senior class have continued to fly off the board as college and universities continue to fill out their rosters. 62 of the Top 100 players in Ontario senior class have committed, with 39 going the Division I route, but there's still plenty of high-end talent who have a chance to make a big impact on a college program.
Below, we break down some of the top uncommitted players still available in Ontario's 2024 class.

ONTARIO SCOUT BLOG: TOP UNCOMMITTED SENIORS
Anthony Unga RHP / P27 Academy, ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 12 / POS: 8
RHP Anthony Unga is no doubt one of the top uncommitted arms in the entire country and has continued to polish himself on the mound as 2023 progressed. Physical frame at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds with a power-arm that sat in the upper 80s throughout the summer/fall while touching low 90s. Features a slider in the upper-70s that he tunnels with the fastball and he has also flashed a splitter at times. Has flashed stuff that will play immediately at the next level and will surely get some looks for the MLB Draft in July.

Jackson Kornylo RHP / 1B / Donald A. Wilson, ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 10
Not sure if there’s a player across the country who’s raised their stock as much as RHP Jackson Kornylo did this past year. Big, athletic build at 6-foot-5, 198-pounds with broad shoulders and plenty of projection. Sat comfortably in the upper-80s over the past year, while running it up to 92mph at the 17U National Championships at LakePoint. Size and athleticism on the mound with offspeed that continues to develop. It will be interesting to see how he comes out of the gate in 2024 following some injuries to close out this past season. Another uncommitted name on this list with characteristics that should garner the attention of pro scouts over the next six months and has expressed interest in entering college as a 2025 grad.

Mark Rogers LHP / LHP / Jacob Hespeler, ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 2
LHP Mark Rogers may have been the most consistent and reliable arms in the province over the past year which ultimately earned him a spot on the Junior National Team this past fall. 6-foot, 175-pounds with athletic movements on the mound and the ability to locate the fastball and fill up the zone. His three-pitch mix, command and mindset allow him to consistently pitch deep into games. Shows the signs of an arm who can have an immediate impact on a college program with his combination of stuff and ability to harness it.

Brayden Ricketts C / 3B / Jean Augustine, ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 1
INF/C Brayden Ricketts is the top uncommitted bat still on the board in Ontario and showed his natural feel to hit over the past year each time we had eyes on him. Ricketts picked up multiple hits at our Eastern Canada ProCase and was launching balls over the RF fence throughout BP. Proportionate frame at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with the ability to impact the ball to all fields. It will be interesting to see where he sticks long-term defensively, but he’s continuously shown the ability to drive the ball against high-level arms.

Ryan Stalony OF / Loyola Catholic , ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 3
OF Ryan Stalony is the top uncommitted outfielder in Ontario and one of the top across the country. Strong, proportionate frame at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds and more of a gap-to-gap hitter, although he’s shown the ability to drive the ball at times this year. Runs well with a 6.62 60-yard dash that translates to the basepaths. Well-rounded game that continues to showcase well when on the field with top players in the country.

Benjamin Kautto C / OF / Western Technical Commercial, ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 28 / POS: 3
C Benji Kautto is another player who’s bat impressed at several national events over the course of 2023. Sturdy frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds and moves well for a catcher with a 6.60 60-yard dash. The left-handed hitter works mostly middle to pullside with some juice in the bat that we’ve seen him tap into in game-action. He garnered plenty of interest throughout the week at the Future Games and his ability on both sides of the ball should have him as a top priority for schools still looking for a catcher. Kautto has also expressed interest in attending school as a 2025 graduate.
