Ontario Fall Scout Days: Quick Hits

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, Canada

The month of September serves as Scout Day season for Prep Baseball Ontario as teams across the province settle in with their updated rosters and begin to collect updated information on the players in their program. This September, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted six Scout Days which allowed us to get a look at over 200 players across the province, as well as collect updated metrics and data on those players.

Following each event, our staff broke down top performers with our Statistical Analysis articles and now with the fall season behind us, our staff will continue to breakdown the standouts we saw throughout the month. Below, our staff will breakdown 19 different players who caught our attention during the Scout Days in September.

BARRIE BAYCATS SCOUT DAY

Daniel Tcherniavski SS / OF / st peters, ON / 2026

Tcherniavski tools have trended upwards since we last saw him at the Future Games Trials in April. Athletic, wiry build at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds and had the best 60-yard time at 6.76. The arm strength has ticked upwards where he was up to 88mph in the outfield and 84mph on the infield. His 90.7mph exit velocity was also best at the event and it’s a gap-to-gap approach with a peak distance of 323ft. Overall, there’s tools to like here with some present strength and Tcherniavski will be a player to watch this next year in the Barrie program.

Wes Crozier 3B / RHP / St. Josephs , ON / 2027

Crozier is an intriguing two-way talent in Barrie’s 2027 class and posted some of the top metrics on both sides of the ball. 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with filling out come and the left-handed hitter had the top distance at 329ft, while his 89.9mph exit velocity was third-best. On the mound, the fastball sat 78-80mph along with a curveball at 64-66mph. A 2027 who has potential either as an arm, or as a bat on the positional side.

Callum Dickie RHP / OF / Twin Lake, ON / 2027

Dickie was one of the top arms to take the mound at the Baycats Scout Day and also impressed on the mound at the 2024 Ray Carter Cup (15U National Championship) with 11 strikeouts and no walks over 5.1 innings. There looks to be more upside on the mound right now as the 5-foot-10, 162-pound right-hander sat 80-81mph (T81.8) with the fastball and features a trio of offspeed pitches with a curveball, slider and changeup. Dickie moves well on the mound with long arm-action. There’s shape and feel for the slider and the changeup has a chance to be an out-pitch with lade fade. Plenty to look here and will be an arm to keep tabs on as he continues to develop and mature throughout high school.

Carter Grieveson RHP / 1B / Barrie North Collegiate, ON / 2027

Grieveson was another standout two-way talent from Barrie’s 2024 Ray Carter Cup team and looks the part at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. On the mound, the fastball sat 77-79mph and there’s feel for the curveball with 12/6 shape at 62-64mph. He also featured a slider at 65mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter works with a gap-to-gap, line-drive approach that generated a peak exit velocity of 88.2mph and distance of 318ft. Grieveson was a top performer on the TrackMan during his bullpen and batting practice and there looks to be more in the tank as he continues to fill out.

ONTARIO YANKEES SCOUT DAY

Richard Marshall RHP / 3B / ASAD/Brooklin, ON / 2027

Marshall flashed impact-type stuff on the mound Friday night as he touched 85.7mph on the mound and followed it up with a strong showing on the positional side Saturday. Strong, physical frame at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds and filled up the zone with a fastball, cutter, slider combination. The fastball sat 82-85mph, along with the cutter at 75-77mph and slider at 71-72mph. Marshall features some of the better pure arm talent in the class and will be an interesting follow as he continues to refine the secondary stuff. At the plate his physicality was evident as he was punishing baseballs to the pullside with a peak exit velocity of 94.1mph (82.1 avg) and peak distance of 317ft (276 avg). An arm our staff is excited to get a look outdoors in live-game action.

Korbin Greaves 1B / LHP / Pickering, ON / 2027

Greaves is a two-way talent in the program with plenty to dream on at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds and there looks to be true two-way potential at the moment. Greaves immediately caught our attention on the mound with the size, left-handedness and his effortless movement/velocity. The fastball sat 81-83mph (T83.9) along with a curveball, cutter and changeup. There’s plenty of upside with the bat, as well, as the right-handed hitter put together two of the better rounds on the day with plenty of barrels and 35% of his swings at 90+mph. Greaves generated a peak exit velocity of 94.1mph (83.9 avg), distance of 302ft and Sweet Spot % of 85. Another highly intriguing 2027 prospect in the Yankees program.

Theo Lima OF / RHP / Donald A. Wilson , ON / 2027

At an event that featured multiple standouts on both sides of the ball, Lima may have been the biggest winner over the two-day showcase. There’s present strength in his game from a smaller, yet physical frame at 5-foot-9, 180-pounds. The right-hander has good characteristics in his three-pitch mix with a fastball sitting 83-85mph from a short and clean arm path. The slider was 72-74mph (2430rpm avg) with tight, sweeping action, along with a changeup at 79-80mph with late, downward action. At the dish, Lima put together the best round of the day as he was consistently back spinning balls in the air to the pullside. The young 2027 had all of his tools on display in Ajax and made some noise as he begins the fall season.

Ben Sommerfeldt RHP / OF / Henry Street, ON / 2026

Sommerfeldt put together the best showcase amongst upperclassmen, starting with his bullpen on Friday where he sat 85-87mph (2450+). The 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander also featured a breaking ball at 74-76mph and splitter at 77-79mph. The right-handed hitter was one of the stronger players during BP, posting a peak exit velocity of 94.4mph and distance of 321ft (50% Hard Hit). From the outfield Sommerfeldt was up to 87mph which was best on the day. There are tools with some strength in his game and he’ll be a player to watch next summer on the Yankees 18U Team.

WHITBY CANADIANS SCOUT DAY

Alexander Piccoli RHP / SS / Brooklin HS, ON / 2027

Piccoli was the top performer at the Whitby Canadians Scout Day and flashed upside on the mound and as a positional prospect. Immediately stood out with an athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds and got his day started on the mound where he sat 75-77mph (T77.8), along with a curveball at 65-66mph and changeup at 68-70mph. It was Piccoli’s round of BP that captured the yard’s attention as the right-handed hitter was elevating balls to the pullside. He easily put together the loudest round of BP on the day with a peak exit velocity of 86.5mph, distance of 312ft. Plenty to work with here and it’ll be fun to where he’s at, development wise, come next fall.

Andrew Gordon RHP / SS / ., ON / 2027

Gordon jumped onto the map this past August as he joined Team Ontario at the 2024 Ray Carter Cup (15U National Championship) and dazzled over 6.2 innings without allowing an earned run. 6-foot, 145-pound right-handed pitcher works with a three-pitch mix while the fastball sits 75-76mph and he’s shown the ability to land the breaking ball for strikes. Gordon was one of the top arms to take the mound at the event and will be an arm to follow in the program over the next year. Also plays the shortstop position.

Maddox Pinch 3B / RHP / Donald A Wilson, ON / 2027

Pinch put together a strong overall workout but immediately caught our attention on the mound with clean mechanics and one of the better breaking balls at the event. 5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed pitcher with a fastball that sits 74-75mph from an easy, repeatable delivery. Also features a curveball at 68-69mph and changeup at 69mph. Pinch was also a top performer during BP as he posted the top average exit velocity (77.3mph) with a peak velocity of 84.6mph.

LONDON BADGERS SCOUT DAY

Logan Melo 3B / 1B / John Paul II Secondary School, ON / 2025

2025 3B Logan Melo was the big winner once again amongst positional prospects at the London Badgers Scout Day and is worth a look from college programs as he’s currently in the fall of senior year. Melo continues to flash impact from the right-side of the plate with sheer strength and size at 6-foor-4, 240-pounds. Generated peak exit velocity of 98.2mph was top on the day, along with an average EV of 87.9mph and peak distance of 333ft, all of which were the highest at the event. Melo does a job utilizing the lower-half and creates some leverage with his upright stance and ability to get the foot down early. Melo’s metrics and abilities at the plate will play at the next level and should be on the radar of college coaches looking for some thump in the lineup.

Logan Dawe 2B / RHP / A.B. Lucas, ON / 2026

2026 OF/RHP Logan Dawe flashed two-way abilites last week at the London Badgers Scout Day and posted the top fastball velocity during bullpens at 83mph. Smaller stature with wiry frame at 5-foot-9, 170-pounds and it’s a quick arm from a long, over-the-top slot where the fastball sat 82-83mph. Dawe filled up the zone throughout his bullpen and there was shape to the breaking ball at 66-68mph, along with a changeup at 73-75mph. Offensively, Dawe also put together one of the better rounds of BP with a peak exit velocity of 89.7mph (83.5 avg) and distance of 303ft. He also worked up to 84mph from the outfield and ran a 7.58 60-yard dash. Good overall showing from Dawe and will be an arm to follow next summer in the Badgers program.

MIDWESTERN ONTARIO BEARCATS SCOUT DAY

Tim Richardson OF / RHP / CCVI, ON / 2026

2026 OF/RHP Tim Richardson impressed our staff at the Bearcats Scout Day with his arm talent, posting the top fastball velocity on the day at 80.7mph. 5-foot-10, 150-pounds and still a little raw on the mound but there’s plenty to work with as the fastball sat 79-80mph, along with a slider at 71-73mph and changeup at 73-74mph. Richardson also worked up to 80mph from the outfield and generated a peak exit velocity of 78.6mph. It’s the arm that grabs your attention and should be plenty more to come.

Cameron Betts RHP / 3B / Glenview Park, ON / 2027

2027 RHP/3B Cameron Betts continues to be a main attraction in the Bearcats program and he showed why at the Bearcats Scout Day as he put together a strong bullpen session. Present strength in the frame at 5-foot-11, 195-pounds and the fastball sat 78-79mph and works from an over-the-top slot that allows him to spin a good breaking ball with 12-6 shape. Betts also worked with an impressive changeup at 66-68mph and kills the spin on it with an average spin rate of 781rpm. Another good showing from Betts who will be a 2027 arm to follow in the Bearcats program.

Brock Dougan OF / RHP / Bluevale Collegiate, ON / 2026

Dougan is one of the top prospects in the Bearcats program and posted some of the top metrics at the organization’s Scout Day. Lean, athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds and his second round of BP was the most impressive on the day as he was driving balls deep to the pullside and put a couple balls out. There’s bat speed from the left-side and generated the top exit velocity (91.8mph) and the top distance (346ft) at the event. Dougan also worked up to 80mph from the outfield and 79.2mph on the mound. Overall, there’s tools to like here and he continues to develop and get better each time we see him.

Ezra Krulicki OF / Waterloo Oxford, ON / 2025

Krulicki is one of the top senior positional players in the Bearcats program and announced his commitment to Prairie Baseball Academy not long after the event. The NY State Games alum put together one of the best rounds of BP on the day with a peak exit velocity of 89.3mph (2nd) and peak distance of 296ft (5th). The left-handed hitter still has plenty of room to fill out and add strength to his 6-foot-1, 162-pound frame. Krulicki put together a strong summer at the dish and still has more development and gains to come.

AURORA KING JAYS SCOUT DAY

Ryan Aires SS / RHP / Bill Crothers, ON / 2027

2027 SS/RHP Ryan Aires put together the best bullpen at the Aurora King Jays Scout Day with a fastball sitting 77-79mph (highest velo of the day). The 5-foot-10, 150-pound right-hander works with a clean arm-swing and ¾-arm slot while filling up the zone with multiple pitches. Aires also featured a curveball at 63-64mph and slider at 67-68mph. Positionally, Aires was 72mph across the diamond, along with a peak exit velocity of 78.3mph, distance of 268ft and Sweet Spot % of 62. Still a 2027, there’s plenty more to come from Aires as he continues to grow and develop as a baseball player.

Jacob Della Rossa 3B / RHP / Cardinal Carter, ON / 2027

2027 3B/RHP Jacob Della Rosa put together the best two-way performance at the Aurora King Jays Scout Day as he posted the second-best fastball velocity at 78.8mph and the fourth-best exit velocity at 82.1mph. At the dish, it’s a quiet, controlled swing from the left-side and he put together a good round with consistent barrels and a 75% Sweet Spot % (tied for best). Della Rossa also flashed upside on the mound, working with a three-pitch mix. Overall, there’s plenty to work with here and his game will only continue trending upwards as he begins to mature and fill out.
