T12 Tryout Notes - Ajax

PBR Ontario was onsite as tryouts for Tournament 12 began in Ajax, Ontario this past Monday. A great chance to get another look at lots of players in one setting, despite mother nature not being that friendly, even if it is June already.
Our Scout blog highlights players of all ages, from unsigned seniors to the up and coming 2022 class. Even battling the elements, there was a lot of performances that caught our eye, and below are some notes and videos from our two days at T12 tryouts in Ajax.
PITCHERS

Lukas Touma RHP / 1B / William Lyon Mackenzie CI, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 15 / POS: 5
Report: Touma had the best bullpen on day 2 of tryouts in terms of throwing strikes, mixing in his off-speed and pitching to both sides. The delivery is clean, arm works from ¾ slot with run on his FB that was 82-84 on this day. The curveball has proper rotation and Touma is a 2020 that will continue to polish his stuff, while the velo will be higher in the summer. |

Jordan Spring RHP / OF / NA, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 6
Report: A 2021 right-hander with clean arm swing and some quickness out-front from ¾ slot. The velo jumped around with his fastball as he was anywhere from 80-85 basically while using mostly just arm, and coming off of his longest outing of the year from a pitch count standpoint. He can spin the curveball and will be an arm that continues to make jumps and gains. A lot to like and project with Spring. |

Virot Siharath RHP / SS / Bill Crothers, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 8
Report: Siharath, a 2021 right-hander with whip and looseness to his arm from clean ¾ slot, had one of the top fastballs of the 2 days tryouts. He worked 84-86 with a handful of 86s, while topping out at 87 mph. He spun the breaking ball between 65-68, was inconsistent but did snap off one really tight with late action. It’s an athletic delivery and he moves well down the mound with pace. He’s going to get stronger and gain strength, and should continue to see his numbers increase. Definite 2021 to be on.

Jacob Corby RHP / SS / Thornhill, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 37 / POS: 15
Report: Corby, a big 6-foot-4 right-hander with wide shoulders and a fastball that works with good downhill plane and has been up to 86 mph this year. Corby worked more in the low 80’s range during his pen, but did show more of a breaking ball than previously seen during his last league outing, working between 73-74 mph and 10/4 shape. A 2020 with upside and actions that are going to play at the next level.

Anthony Wyslobocki RHP / N/A, ON / 2020Report: Wyslobocki, a 6-foot righty with quick was 82-84, touched an 85 with arm side run on his heater during his pen. The arm and hand speed out front make Wyslobocki a very intriguing prospect, as he’ll flash some feel with the curveball, and the free and easy arm, mixed with a quiet delivery, there should be some interest and follow this summer, and can see him potentially taking that next step. |

Adam Khan RHP / 3B / Aurora, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 46 / POS: 20
Report: Khan, a long and lean RHP was 82-85 in his bullpen. The arm works in the back and gets outfront, a soft front leg will keep his fastball up at times, but when he gets extended will get some run on the FB. Khan throws breaking ball and splitter, with the breaking ball more 11/5 when on top, while the splitter is a work in progress but will get some tumble action. Lots of room to add size and a frame that you can project on. Khan has been off to a solid start in league play and one of the better arms at the 17u level in his league thus season so far.

Carson Lumley RHP / SS / Mother Teresa, ON / 2022Report: One of the top 2022 arms in the class, Lumley has some funk to delivery, which creates some deception and uncomfortable at-bats, especially with him being one of, if not the hardest throwers in his age group as he works in the 83-85 range. It’s 6-foot-3, 170-pounds with length all around and room to add strength and size and carry it well. It’s a quick arm out front and the breaking stuff was sharper on this day. Changeup had fading action at 74 mph and Lumley is currently one of the top 2022 arms in Canada, definite follow for college coaches.

HITTERS

Rowan Radzinski OF / SS / Sinclair , ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 38 / POS: 5
Report: Radzinski, an uncommitted outfielder for the Toronto Mets had one of the more impressive batting practice rounds of the day. The left-handed hitter is compact and powerful, and had no problem getting his bat head out front and creating a havoc by the right-field bullpens. He hit’s with a slightly uphill bat path and makes hard sweet-spot contact with carry. Radzinski moves fairly well on the bases and in the outfield and tracks balls well. Radzinski is an interesting player to follow with an all-around toolset.

Mac Melvin SS / 3B / Etobicoke Collegiate, ON / 2022Report: Melvin, a 2022 grad will be a name to watch in his class in the upcoming years. It’s a smooth right-handed swing with bat-to-ball ability and barrel awareness. He transfers his weight efficiently and hits out front, staying through the baseball. It’s an athletic frame with advanced body control, giving him a solid foundation to hit from. Melvin will be an interesting look throughout the summer.

Brodie Mackay SS / 2B / Garth Webb, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 88 / POS: 10
Report: MacKay, a 2021 shortstop for the Ontario Royals impressed from the left side of the batter's box. MacKay starts slightly open, generates bat speed with pre-pitch barrel movements, keeps his hands back and lines the ball with a flat plane all over the field. The baseball jumps off of his bat, and with added strength, could add a power component to his game. It’s a mechanically sound, smooth left-handed swing with upside. The actions in the infield continue to improve, and he demonstrates a feel for the left-side.

Josh McGuin C / 3B / Forest Hill Collegiate, ON / 2022Report: McGuin, a young 20222 left-handed hitting catcher, shows bat speed and rhythm at the plate. The hands works through the zone well, creating bat speed and showing ability to make hard contact. He looks to stay middle of the field, and he catches your eye in BP with the barrel whip through the zone. Still work to do behind the plate, but a 2022 you want to keep an eye on moving forward this summer. |

Nicholas Thibodeau C / Notre Dame Catholic, ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 1
Report: Another player with power potential, Thibodeau displayed his strength in both of his rounds during Day 2. Thibodeau left the yard multiple times, going deep to left-center and going deep down the right-field line. He doesn't have to try to do much at the plate, as his strength takes over once contact is made. He showed well behind the plate as well, recording his top pop-time at 2.02, one of the best in the group. Potential middle of the order bat with ability to work with at the catcher position as well.

Cole Iantomasi 3B / 1B / All Saints, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 2
Report: Iantomosi, a 2021 grad, put together a loud round of batting practice during Day 1 in Ajax. He barreled up everything from the right side of the plate, hitting line-drives to both sides of the field. He looked comfortable going the other way, and also showed the ability to rotate and use the pull-side of the field. He is a physical player with gap-to-gap power in his game, making him a must watch when he steps in the batter's box.

Lachlan Maude C / NA, ON / 2022Report: Another 2022, Maude is a catcher with present ability on both ends. At the plate, Maude stood out with the ease and fluidity in his approach. He displayed bat-to-ball skills with a short, opposite-field mindset. Behind the plate, he moves his feet well with pop-times in the 2.24-2.27 range. Just a freshman in high school, strength gains will allow him to impact the ball with more authority and get off stronger throws across. |

Owen Shepherd OF / NA, ON / 2022Report: Shepherd, a 2022 grad put together a solid BP round during Day 2 of T12 tryouts. He hits with an inside-out approach with compact movements, generating force. His bat works well through the zone with good lower half actions allowing him to be in control at the plate. He will be interesting watch going forward. |
