ProCase Preview - Ontario Terriers

As the ProCase is right around the corner, the roster is set and the talent is impressive for this year’s event. Dan Lang Field will host players from the Toronto Mets, Ontario Blue Jays, Fieldhouse Pirates, Ontario Terriers, Great Lake Canadians, Stoufville Yankees, Ontario Royals and ABC Académie. These ballplayers have a chance to start the spring off with success and raise their stock heading into the summer. Here is a breakdown of the Ontario Terriers attendees.

Elijha Hammill SS / 3B / Holy Trinity , ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 3 / POS: 1
Report: A member of the Canadian Junior National Team, Hammill hit .286/.444/.571 with a home run on most recent trip. The 2021 prospect is the 1st ranked shortstop and 3rd overall. 5-foot-10, 175-pound infielder, medium frame, strong, athletic build. Can run, has been up to 6.64 running the 60-yard dash, speed translates to the infield, and the outfield in minimal viewing. Covers ground at shortstop, able to adjust footing with direction towards first-base, the glove actions continue to improve. Displays similar tools both from the left side and the right side of the plate, bat speed and explosiveness are evident both ways, better rhythm and timing from the right-side allows for tools to be better maximized. His athleticism will enable adjustments and advancements to continue to be made, and by the time his grad year comes, he’ll be one of the top prospects in the country. |

Connor O'Halloran LHP / OF / St. Martin Secondary School, ON / 2020Report: Michigan recruit, also back for his second ProCase, top ranked player in 2020 class. 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, room for strength gains and improved athleticism. Left-handed arm, low ¾ arm slot, short arm circle out back, pounds the zone with strikes. Old-fashioned windup where he gets his glove over his head and uses a large tucked back leg kick before finishing out front. Fastball works up to 87 mph, sits 84-86, low 70’s secondary offerings, curveball displays 11/5 break with depth, often buried inside on right-handed hitters, also used to get ahead in the count. Changeup is a useful offering for him when off of his fastball. He displays impressive polish and pitchability for a 2020 on the mound, allowing him to make the most out of his arsenal.

Austin Gomm SS / 2B / Port Credit , ON / 2020Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 1
Report: VCU commit, Canadian Junior National team member, 6-foot-1, 185-pound, proportioned build, medium frame, will continue to gain strength. Gomm is a steady shortstop in the infield, displays soft hands, body control, positions himself accurately, awareness and internal clock allow him to finish off plays. Should stick on the left side at the next level, enough arm strength to play both shortstop and third-base if necessary. Linear hitting style, starts closed off while driving forward and using the middle of the field, line-drive approach, when he gets his bat through the zone early he has shown the ability to drive a pitch to the pull-side over the wall. Gomm’s a consistent player who does everything right on the field, will be an enjoyable watch on the 8th.

Tyson Gomm C / OF / Port Credit, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 1
Report: Ranked the number one backstop in his class, an attendee of the Future Games in 2018, returning for his second straight ProCase. 5-foot-11,170-pound, small frame, slopped shoulders, physical development to come. Displayed his ability at the FGT’s, turned in 2.03-2.12 pop-times, with 75 mph arm strength behind the plate, sound all-around defensive actions. At the plate, there’s bat speed and aggression towards the baseball, two-hand finish keeps him controlled and allows his line-drive approach with pull-side direction to work well. Just a sophomore in high school, the glove and arm are currently ahead of the bat, but in all bright future ahead for the left-handed hitting Gomm.
