PBR Spring Training Quick Hits 4.0

Josh Arce
Intern, PBR Canada

There was so much talent with us in Panama City Beach for PBR Spring Training and our staff continues to break it all down with our fourth edition of PBR Spring Training Quick Hits.

The best part about Spring Training for our staff was the true Coast to Coast feel to the event with players all the way from British Columbia out to Newfoundland. Not just that, we had a ton of talented unsigned seniors with us but also a ton of young talent who were able to jump on our radar.

All of that is represented below as we highlight three players from Ontario, two from B.C. and one from Alberta. To boot, we also take a look at a pair of uncommitted 2022s, three 2025s and a 2023.

Tristan Cerrato C / 1B / St. Maximilian Kolbe, ON / 2025

Cerrato, 5-foot-10, 150-pounds, is a very mature catcher for his age. Behind the dish, Cerrato has soft hands, handles the low pitch well, and blocks up when he needs to. He puts confidence in his pitching staff and will only continue to get better as he gets bigger and stronger. Through Day 4 at PCB, Cerrato is 2-for-5 with 1 XBH and 2 BB. Cerrato is a very interesting young player that should be on everyone’s radar going forward in the 2025 class.

Wylie Waters SS / 3B / Sentinel Secondary, BC / 2022

Waters, 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, was one of the best players at PCB this weekend. It seemed that every time you turned your head, he was circling the bases. There’s a different sound coming off his bat and has a very smooth swing for an RHH. He can drive the ball to all fields and has a plus hit tool. In the field, he can really pick it. He uses his 6-foot-2 frame to cover a lot of ground and seemed to make it look easy out there. Waters very well could be the MVP of the tournament with his multiple XBH’s, including an inside the park homerun. Uncommitted, Waters should be on everyone’s radar after this weekend.

Kyle Hepburn C / 1B / Steveston London, BC / 2022

Hepburn, 6-foot-1, 215-pounds, was very impressive behind the dish throughout the entire week. Being called to several different teams to catch the top pitchers in the tournament, Hepburn caught the ball very well. He works back towards the strike zone and sticks the low pitch nicely. He gets low in his one-knee set up and presents a good target. In the box, he is a physical hitter. He has a strong lower half and shows some bat speed. He made loud contact throughout the whole day, including a rocket line drive into the LF corner for a double. A Johnson County CC commit, Hepburn is a big, athletic catcher who can do it on both sides of the ball.

Ty Wilson SS / RHP / Catholic Central , ON / 2025

Wilson, 5-foot-5, 115-pounds, is an interesting player out of the London Badgers organization. He is a scrappy player, works the count in AB’s and is always tough out. In his first AB, he fouled off multiple pitches, finally got a pitch he could drive and hit a solid liner into LF. In his second AB, he took an aggressive approach to the plate and hammered a line drive the other way into the corner for a stand-up double.  In the field, he made the routine plays look routine and was steady at SS. Look for Wilson to continue to grow and get better as a player throughout the next couple years.

Justin Dandeneau OF / LHP / Horizon , ON / 2025

Don’t let the small frame fool you from his game, Dandeneau is a gamer. In the box, Dandeneau stays on plane, and gets his bat through the zone nicely, producing line drive after line drive. Today, he hit a line drive rocket up the middle for an RBI base hit, then took 2nd and 3rd base on an overthrow from the OF. In the OF, he tracks balls well and knows how to play the game the right way. As he continues to grow and mature, Dandeneau has a chance to be a good one.

Rowan Robinson RHP / Western Canada, AB / 2023

Robinson, 6-foot-5, 205-pounds, has a very projectable pitcher’s body. On the mound, he creates a downward angle with his FB that plays with his CB, which spun at 2570. He showed command of both pitches, living at the bottom of the zone. It looks free and easy for the big RHP, sitting 80-84 mph. He has a wicked CB, that is tight breaking and has potential to be swing-and-miss type of stuff. The Okotoks Dawgs product is a RHP school should be looking at.
