Hepburn (Johnson County CC) was a standout at PBR Spring Training with his right-handed bat, flashing his size and strength. Although the bat wasn't as loud as we've seen in the past, his strong frame continues to stand out among his peers at 6-foot-1, 215-pounds. His athleticism and feel for the game were evident this past week as he manned centrefield nearly the entire week and didn't look out of place, in fact making several big plays for the championship Delta Blue Jays.
3/22/22
Hepburn, 6-foot-1, 215-pounds, was very impressive behind the dish throughout the entire week. Being called to several different teams to catch the top pitchers in the tournament, Hepburn caught the ball very well. He works back towards the strike zone and sticks the low pitch nicely. He gets low in his one-knee set up and presents a good target. In the box, he is a physical hitter. He has a strong lower half and shows some bat speed. He made loud contact throughout the whole day, including a rocket line drive into the LF corner for a double. A Johnson County CC commit, Hepburn is a big, athletic catcher who can do it on both sides of the ball.
9/30/20
Hepburn has done everything possible to help raise his stock in the last year. He has gained around 50lbs through nutrition and a disciplined weightlifting program and has seen velocity gains on both his position throwing and his exit velocity. At the Fall Open, the North Delta Blue Jays catcher led the catchers in positional velocity at 82 MPH, leading to a consistent 2.00-2.1 POP time with decent footwork and good ride out on his throws. He did not hit at this event due to a hand injury that he suffered over the summer; however, his EV hit 101.2 shortly before the injury. He is a big physical right-handed-hitting catcher, and it will be entertaining to see how he performs in his Sr. High School season. A must-follow for any school looking for a hard-working and competitive catcher. Extra tidbit: hasn't pitched, but he can ride mid-high 80s with his fastball off the mound and a position velocity of 92 MPH from the outfield.
