Day One Highlights

With Day 1 of games and practices in the books, there was all kinds of action with talent going off from 8:00am to 9:30pm at the beautiful, and all turf Boombah Sports Complex.

We take a look at at a few highlights and different categories from the day, ranging from Player of the day, Best surprise, and a web gem that stood out to our Florida, Ohio, and Ontario scouting staff.

An exciting day one with tight games, big time defensive plays and offensive outputs, the week ahead looks to be a very entertaining 5 more days of baseball in the sun. Check it all out below.

PLAYER OF THE DAY

Joshua Anderson SS / 2B / Ajax, ON / 2018

Report: Anderson came out the gates on fire, taking the very first fastball of the game down the RF line for a double. It didn’t stop there as he would continue to spray the ball into the gaps all day throughout his two games, acting as the leadoff hitter for his Yankees. The actions play at shortstop and the body projects well with more strength to gain. Anderson was the easy choice, look for the uncommitted 2019 to continue to make noise.

PLAY OF THE DAY

Drew Howard RHP / SS / All Saints, ON / 2020

Report: Playing shortstop, deep in the six hole, get it out and throw on the run fading into left field, one hop online to first, bang bang punch him out. Impressive as you can see, even more impressive was that it was a real long inning, and Howard had the discipline to stay locked in and make a web gem play like this. Actions speak louder than words here.

SENIOR STEAL

Carter Seabrooke LHP / OF / Crestwood, ON / 2019

Report: One of the top uncommitted arms in the country, Seabrooke had good life on his fastball, sitting 87-88, touching 89 in his one inning of work. He threw a real sharp curveball with late downward action. He did get deep in counts, but was able to generate swings and misses and a weak inning ending double play ball. Don’t think Seabrooke lasts to long on the board with the stuff he possesses.

PITCHER OF THE DAY

Steven Hospital RHP / OF / Holy Trinity, ON / 2019

Report: The Niagara commit worked two quick and efficient innings on Monday, utilizing all three pitches to both sides of the plate, he was down in the zone working 84-86 with the fastball while the slider was sharp and late. Hospital continues to make strides and he looks poised for a strong 2019 campaign.

GAME OF THE DAY

Report: The Ontario Yankees and Fieldhouse Pirates were full of action on Day one. Guys laying out, big time hits, backwards K’s and offensive outputs on both sides. Fieldhouse came through with a late rally to take the lead late and pull out the win, but a solid effort from both clubs to open up the jam packed week full of ball. Look forward to seeing these two teams get after it on Monday and rest of the week.

SURPRISE OF THE DAY

Report: The Mississauga Tigers came out the gates with performances on both sides of the field. The bats were alive and awake early while James Markham set the tone, filling the strike zone up and attacking hitters early. A little bit of a mystery heading into the trip, the Tigers put their best foot forward day one, letting people know they are here to get after it.
