Canadian ProCase: Ontario's Standouts

Ryan Sattz
PBR Canada Intern

On August 17th we setup shop at Kings Christian Collegiate in Oakville for the 2022 PBR Canada ProCase, the first of it's kinda. After having the ProCase wiped out the past two years due to COVID-19, we kicked it up a notch this year inviting players from across the country for the first time ever.

In attendance we had players from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and B.C. and to add some flair, there were several Canadians who play predominantly in the U.S.

Prospects had the chance to showcase their talents in front of a dozen pro scouts and a handful of pro organizations. Below, provide scouting notes and video on five of Ontario's standouts from the event.

Parker Burgess RHP / St. Peters Catholic, ON / 2023

Burgess, a 6 foot-4 200-pound RHP showed electric stuff at the PBR Pro Case. The Illinois commit had a good feel for all his pitches getting a head early and often. On the mound the fastball was heavy topping 91 Mph, the curveball showed late bite and a change up with some heavy arm side run. The body is advanced with a strong long athletic frame that will defiantly play at the next level.

Lachlan Harrison LHP / OF / Loyola Catholic Secondary School, ON / 2024

Harrison, a 6 foot- 4 195-pound LHP did not disappoint on the mound. Has taken major strides since we last saw him adding noticeable strength to his tall lanky frame. Attacked hitters with a 3-pitch mix that he threw for strikes at any point in the count. The fastball was tough to read out of the hand topping 89 Mph, a slider that had a sharp sweep to it and a change up that kept hitters off balance. Will be a name to look out for as one of the top uncommitted arms.

Cole Leclair SS / 3B / Upper Canada College, ON / 2023

Leclair, a 6 foot-2 195-pound MIF was one of the standouts in the box all day at the Pro Case. At the plate the St Johns commit looked comfortable living up the middle to pull side. The swing is easy, stays balanced with aggressive twitch and a barrel that flies through the zone. Tough batter for pitchers to face as he does not get beat to often.

Asafa Jones OF / LHP / TNXL - Florida, ON / 2024

Jones, a 6-foot 200-pound OF is a player that stands out right when he gets off the bus. Had an overall impressive day, showcasing his skills on both sides of the field. In the batter’s box the swing is open, lives mostly pull side with lots of pop in the bat. Hit a few tape measure homeruns in BP. Looked solid in game action with a few hard-hit balls, capped off with a single to right field. Will be a steal for a school looking for an impact player that can help the program right away.

Brayden Ricketts C / 3B / Jean Augustine Secondary School, ON / 2024

Ricketts, a 6-foot 200-pound Catcher was one of the more impressive bats at the Pro Case. In the box the swing was smooth with a flat path towards the baseball, looks to catch the ball out front, uses the body well with quick actions in his lower half. Majority of his balls hit were on a line, did not get cheated as Ricketts had one of the best rounds of bp on the day. Has lots of upside behind the plate as he continues to turn heads.
