2022 Watch List 3.0
Ethan Price RHP / OF / St.Stephen Catholic Secondary School, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 98 / POS: 27
Report: Price had a good showing on the mound back in August at the Oshawa Scout Day and it was the clean, quick arm that immediately stood out. At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds there’s some growth that still needs to come but he moves well on the bump, was able to throw strikes and showed feel for multiple pitches. Price’s game works in the outfield as well where his arm plays, but there’s more upside as a pitcher right now. The Legionnaires right-hander sat comfortably at 81-82, topping out at 83 and there looks to be more in there for Price so it will be interesting to get a look come spring time. |
Benicio Diaz C / RHP / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 73 / POS: 13
Report: Diaz is a lean, 6-foot-3, 200-pound catcher from the Ontario Blue Jays who has potential on both sides of his game. Defensively, the arm strength plays is his biggest asset with carry on his throws at 77 mph. He moves well side to side but footwork and quickness getting rid of the ball will round out the defensive game. At the plate, he’s a gap to gap hitter right now from right-side and with his frame, there’s a chance we see a lot more power from him over the next couple summers. An interesting follow in the class as Diaz looks like he can stick behind the dish. |
Luke Torrance OF / Maxwell Heights Secondary , ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 79 / POS: 13
Report: Torrance was one of the more exciting players we saw this summer at the Oshawa Scout where his strength and stroke from the left-side really stood out. Strong frame at 6-foot-0, 190-pounds and he swung the wood well in August with a lot of hard hit pulls. Swing plays mostly up the middle and to his pullside, which is where his power lives. Moves well in the outfield for his size and projects as a corner outfield with arm strength. Torrance is another player who has the potential to breakout in 2021, ahead of his senior year. |
Mac Melvin SS / 3B / Etobicoke Collegiate, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 68 / POS: 12
Report: Melvin is an interesting player heading into 2021 as he impressed early on last year with tools on both sides of the ball before baseball was shut down. At 6-foot-3, 175-pounds there’s a lot of projection in his game and his strength stands out in all areas. He’s got a quick stroke from the right-side with bat speed and while there’s not a ton of power in his game right now, he hits balls hard and the power should come as he adds to his frame. He has the arm strength to stick on the left side of the diamond and he seems more suited for third base at this time. |
