PBR OK Sandlot Scout Day Upgrade: Second Basemen Analysis

The third annual PBR Sandlot Scout Day was held at Broken Arrow HS on May 18th and at Oklahoma Christian on May 19th. This two day event feature most players in Sandlot organization. Covered here are only those players who chose to upgrade to a PBR profile at the event.

Adam Cherry 2B / OF / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2021

A 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame with space to add on some pounds.. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly open stance and uses a small reach with the front side. Cherry has a slight armbar with his load but makes up for it with a direct path to the baseball.Cherry does a great job staying in the middle of the yard and utilizes his best tool, 83 mph exit velo. His legs.His best 60 time is a 6.54. Defensively, shows decent footwork  catches and catches the ball out with a quick transfer. Arm strength is improving throwing 75mph across the infield. 

Johnathon Masingale 2B / SS / Collinsville, OK / 2022

A 5-foot-10, 145-pound MIF with young, raw frame, athletic movements from the left side of the plate, line drive swing with good bat to ball skill. Balanced setup with rhythm and timing, works to stride with small negative toe tap, hands stay tight to the upper half. Quick hands to the baseball with short extension and finish, more strength/balance needed in lower half to hold finish. In BP, shows a pull side and flat approach, some barrels, 74 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.50 60. Defensively, glove works with good bounce and instincts to the baseball, hesitant at times, transfer and shuffle are long, low sling- shot arm action across the baseball diamond. More arm strength to be developed in the next few years, lacked carry to the bag at 73 mph. 

Marc Turner 2B / OF / Edison Prep, OK / 2020

A 6-foot, 160-pound athlete, hits with some twitch from the right side of the plate, uses a toe tap and lift to stride, inconsistent at times. Athletic movements in the box, shows burst to the baseball with some hand speed, lower half needs refined. Stiff front side to hit against, gets steep through contact and finishes heavy on backside. Lifts middle to pull side, 80 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.21 60. Defensively, active and athletic moves to the baseball in the infield, good glove instincts, short strides to field, plays tall. Shows arm speed from ¾ arm slot, aggressive to throw with good carry on the baseball through the bag. Makes play on the run with clean transfer. 85 mph across the diamond in IF, 88 mph to the bag from RF.
