OK Underclass Prospect Games: LHP Analysis

On October 29th, Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held it inaugural event, the OK Underclass Prospect Games, in Edmond Oklahoma. Nearly 70 players from around the state from the 2018, 2019, and 2020 classes attended the event.
Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at left-handed pitchers. The event was comparatively left-handed heavy, boasting 11 southpaws.Though many of the arms here are two-way players, they will be covered here as pitchers. Left-Handed Pitchers
Michelle Artzberger, LHP, MacAurthur HS, (2019)
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound proportional build. Works from an average tempo delivery, some stiffness. Arm action shows a quick change of direction in the back, comes through clean and quick, 3/4 slot. Fastball flashes late arm-side run, 78-79 mph. Changeup has some fade at 71 mph. Breaking ball is up out of the hand with slurve shape, 61-62 mph. Recorded two strikeouts and gave up two hits in his inning of work. Filled up the strike zone throwing only two balls.
Cash Balentine, LHP, Wister HS (2018)
A 5-foot-8, 150-pound proportional build. Works from the stretch, up-tempo delivery, high leg kick, big arm circle, 3/4 slot, and a loose arm. Fastball sat 77-78 mph, has been up to 82 mph previously, flashes late arm-side run. Curveball shows late tight spin with slurve action and 1/7 shape, 66-68 mph. Changeup had some fate, 69 mph. All three pitches for strikes, gave up one hit and no walks.
Jordan Brewer, LHP, Choctaw HS (2020)
A 5-foot-11, 140-pound slender frame, lots of room to add size and strength, high ceiling. Works with a up-tempo, athletic delivery, high leg kick, short arm action in the back, quick out front, 3/4 slot. Fastball sits 77-80 mph, touching 81 mph, consistent arm-side run. Breaking ball shows slurve action, 69-71 mph, flashes tight spin. Changeup, 69-70 mph, some sink. Brewers outing was up and down with three walks and three strikeouts in two innings.
Dax Fulton, LHP, Mustang HS (2020)
A 6-foot-4, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, long limbs, strong lower half. Clean, up-tempo delivery, high leg kick, strides slightly closed, high-3/4 slot, fluid arm action. Fastball sits 81-83 mph, enough cut to look like a slider at times. Two-seam shows some run and sink, 76-78. Changeup has good fade and depth, 73-75. Curveball showed good depth when down in the zone, 1/7 shape, 69-71. Retired the side in order in his inning of work with two ground outs and a punch out. Fulton pounded the zone, throwing only 3 balls.
Jared Gay, LHP, Piedmont HS (2020)
A 6-foot, 202-pound durable, advanced build for his age. On the mound, slow controlled delivery, exaggerated balance point, short arm circle, over the top slot, recoil finish. Fastball keeps its plane, 75-76 mph. Changeup shows consistent sink and deception, 66-67 mph. Gay recorded two punch outs and three walks in his inning.
Donovan Gaines, LHP, Southmoore (2019)
A 5-foot-11, 190-pound thick, athletic build. Works from an average tempo, stiff delivery. Arm action is short in the back, stiff on the way through, high-3/4 slot. Fastball shows some downhill tilt and flashes run, 74-76 mph. Changeup thrown for strikes, 70 mph. Allowed two walks and a hit to go along with a strikeout in his inning.
Shae Morrison, LHP, Harrah (2020)
A 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame with long legs, short torso, and lots room to add size and strength. Works with a controlled tempo, arm so some quickness, 3/4 slot, throws from underneath and inside the baseball. Fastball shows some downhill life flashing sink and run, 78-80 mph and touches 81 mph. Changeup sits 68-73 mph, some sink. Though the release point was inconsitant, Morrison showed the ability to get swings and misses on the fastball, giving up six free bases, but striking out six as well in two innings.
Colby Routh, LHP, Edmond Memorial (2020)
A 5-foot-10, 150-pound projectable build. Delivery is controlled with some rhythm. Arm action is smooth, fast out front from a 3/4 slot. Fastball sits 76-78 mph and touches 79 mph with some life. Curveball has 1/7 shape flashing some late depth, 68-71 mph. Routh punched out one, allowed two hits, and walked four.
Brandon Rutledge, LHP, McAlester HS (2018)
A 5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic build. Works from the stretch, short leg kick, short, fast, stiff arm action, high-3/4 slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 79-81 mph. Curveball rolls with 7/1 shape, 62-64 mph. Rutledge recorded three outs after walking two in his inning on the mound.
Josh Soliz, LHP, Edmond North HS (2018)
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame with long legs and broad shoulders. Works from an abbreviated windup, good rhythm and tempo, loose arm action, low-3/4 slot. Fastball showed some arm-side run, 73-76 mph. Changeup sat 67-69 mph, good feel. Curveball spins out at 60-64 mph. Gave up two deep count walks and no hits in an inning of work.
Dylan Turner, LHP, Silo HS, (2019)
A 6-foot-3, 165 pound long frame, plenty of room to add strength. Up-tempo, repeatable delivery, gets the ball up early in the back, arm comes through clean and whippy, 3/4 slot. Fastball is controlled at 76-78 mph with arm-side run. Slider shows 4/8 shape with sweeping action, 69 mph, also controlled. Retired his three batters in a row, striking out one.
