Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase. Scouting Notes: 2018 Preseason All-State Showcase - Catchers

Ulrich Is Anything but Under the Radar

Evan Ulrich C / SS / Buckeye Valley, OH / 2020

2020 C/IF Evan Ulrich (Buckeye Valley HS) was the youngest catcher in attendance. And, much like his appearance at the Future Games, it could be easy to overlook him in a crowd of physical, upper-class catchers.

Is he currently the best pro prospect of the catchers? No, but the argument could be made that he put together the best performance of the catchers in attendance.

The George Washington recruit was very clean behind the plate, showing the ability to throw from the crouch and from his knees. His pop times ranged from 1.83-2.03, showing the most accurate arm amongst the group. Most impressively, he never took a pitch off in bullpens receiving and blocking with game intent each pitch. At the plate, he has a line drive swing, projecting for more power as his frame develops. Right now, his hit tool is average but it has a chance to change once natural tools catch up to his barrel feel/control.
