Van Wert at Defiance - 5/5/18
Lawson Blackmore RHP / SS / Van Wert, OH / 2019Rankings StateRank: 44 / POS: 16
6-5, 205-pound projectable right-hander. On the mound he works with a slower pace. Arm action is longer with well above average arm speed, working through a high-¾ slot. Offers a fastball/breaking ball combination with his fastball sitting 85-90 mph on this occasion. The pitch gets on hitters quickly and had late run to it at times. Curveball has an 11/5 shape and had some sharpness to it at 72-75 mph. Still developing feel for the breaker. High-upside arm. Game Stats: 5 IP | 1 R | 0 ER | 4 H | 3 BB | 7 K |
St. Edward vs St. Ignatius - 5/3/18
Spencer Crane C / 3B / St. Edward, OH / 2019Report: Uncommitted. Thick, muscular 6-foot-4, 195-pound framework. Top heavy, with large biceps and thick upper-body, accentuated by his powerful swing. Displays a wide stance, a la Jeff Bagwell. Extends hands all the way through the follow through for a complete swing. Maintains steady contact through upper part of the zone only. Short step when approaching the ball. 91 mph exit velocity. 7.30 60 time. Flawed mechanics in the field. A little lanky/unorthodox when covering first base. Does not fully extend arm to meet ball when playing the field. Presents big frame at first base, so errant throws do not often get past. |
Wapakoneta at Defiance - 5/2/18
Don Goodes OF / LHP / Wapakoneta, OH / 2018Rankings StateRank: 49 / POS: 9
Report: 5-10, 170-pound left-handed hitting athletically built centerfielder. First time seeing Goodes live after hearing the hype and he did not disappoint. Has a great approach at the plate, taking the pitch where it is thrown while not trying to do too much. Utilized the middle of the field well, while going 4-4, including a triple to the opposite field gap. Quick hands at the dish, with a slight uppercut in the swing. Uses a leg lift as his timing mechanism. One of, if not the top bat I have seen all spring. Four impressive at bats vs a very good pitcher for Defiance. Keep an eye on Goodes as VMI is getting an impressive bat/athlete. Game Stats: 4-4, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 1 RBI *** Numbers in his profile are from 2016 |
