Ohio Spotlight Game: District Semifinal -

Nordonia vs #8 Twinsburg

Nordonia behind the gutty pitching performance of 4-sport athlete senior Justin Post won a hard fought 4-1 victory over Twinsburg in the District Semifinal at Hudson.

Junior shortstop Trey Crockett led off the game with a single up the middle, sacrificed to second by senior catcher Santino Ciocca, then Post helped out his cause by driving in Crockett with a single up the middle, making it 1-0 Nordonia.

The second inning Twinsburg gifted Nordonia another two runs by walking junior third baseman Daniel Heiser, hitting senior Owen Dobbins with a pitch, botching a sacrifice bunt, by sophomore DH Mason Mimms which loaded the bases. 

Senior left-fielder Dennis Kopacz then drew another walk for an RBI, followed by Crockett’s RBI groundout, advantage Nordonia 3-0. 

Senior second baseman Ryan Soltis tripled to right center field to lead off the sixth inning for Nordonia, advancing home on a Dobbins infield groundout to put Nordonia up 4-0.

Twinsburg finally got in the scoring column in the sixth after having at least one baserunner in each of the first five innings. 

Junior first baseman Jake Carinci singled up the middle, followed by a single by senior Brandon Vinas. Junior right fielder Tyler Garing drew a walk to load the bases and freshman third baseman Jon Szydlowski got the only RBI for Twinsburg, as he was hit by a pitch. 

Nordonia and Post got out of the jam with a sharp third to home to first double play on a ground ball. 

Twinsburg failed to rally in the seventh and fell by a score of 4-1, finishing with a 22-5 record. 

Nordonia moves on to the finals versus Solon with a 16-11 record.
