Ohio Spotlight Game: #5 Walsh Jesuit vs Cleveland Benedictine

The division I #5 Walsh Jesuit Warriors (9-2) visited division II Benedictine Bengals (5-6). It was Walsh Jesuit coming away with the victory in this five inning affair by a score of 13-0.

Walsh Jesuit is going into this contest coming off a Saturday double header in which it saw two no-hitters. They almost went for a third no-hitter in a row.

The Warriors showed the depth of their lineup, getting their offense going in the top of the second inning.

It was their eight and nine hole hitters getting back to back singles to get the scoring going. Right fielder, Andrew Knipfer singled to right field and second baseman Bryce Marshall also singled to right field picking up the RBI. With two outs RHP Dan Mendenhall helped his own cause out by getting a two out RBI single to left field.

That was all Walsh needed to keep this game under control. Mendenhall was cruising through the first four innings.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth inning that Benedictine would break the Walsh Jesuit pitching staff streak of hitless innings it gave opponents through these three games dating back to Saturday 4/16.

Mendenhall went five innings giving up one hit, struck out five, and walked three batters getting the win. Mendenhall also went 3-4 with three singles, stolen base, and an RBI to help his own cause.

Sophomore catcher Matt Finucan singled through the left side of the infield to get Benedictine’s only hit of the contest.
