LUCAS - The opportunity to be an athlete is right at home for Logan Niswander. For starters, there is a gym at his house. “I throw every day,” the junior from Lucas High School explained. “I’ve had a dream since I started playing baseball and I’ve been working for it since I can remember.” If the 38th-rated 2020 in Ohio needed anybody to push him, his step-father Hank Webb was right there to oblige. “My freshman year he’d wake me up at 6:30 and I’d go out and run a mile,” Niswander said of the former minor league baseball player who played collegiately at Morehead State. “He said if you have a dream you’ve got to put in the work. It’s not going to just come to you. Once I bought into his ideas, everything blew up.” There has been one visit so far, that to Ball State with interest coming from others such as Xavier. “I’ve been training at PPA,” the 6-4 195-pound right-handed pitcher said in reference to Prospect Performance Academy. “My sophomore summer I was hitting 84 but once I started Driveline it’s brought me up to 87-88.” Other improvement has been made as well by the fifth-ranked uncommitted junior in the state. “When I was younger I never threw anything but a fastball,” Niswander reflected. “I threw it harder than anyone. But as you get older you need another pitch and I’ve been working on that. Now I’ve got good command of my change.” There is more that Niswander plans to work on. “I still need to strengthen my arm and get my durability up,” Niswander noted. Jordan Chiero, PBR Ohio Director of Scouting, believes Niswander can only get better with interest expected to pick up. |
