2019 Spring Team Preview: Canfield Cardinals
Team Name: Canfield Cardinals
Head Coach: Gary Knittle
Division: II
2018 Record: 18-9
Conference Record: All American Conference 8-2 (1st)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 3/3
2019 Team Strengths:
- Speed
- Outfield Play
- Starting Pitching
- Offense
Coach Outlook: "This upcoming season, entering the season losing 16 seniors, so we have to replace them with some inexperienced varsity performers, but there is a lot of talent incoming. Our pitching staff is led by 4 or 5 lefties that logged a lot of innings at the varsity and jv level. Our outfield may very well be the best in the state. We have 2 solid seniors behind the plate that we can count on as well. Where we are lacking is the middle infield, but I expect the competition there to allow the cream to rise to the top. I believe we have the talent to make a serious tournament run, as we fell in the regional final the past 2 seasons. I also expect us to contend to defend our conference title from last year."
PBR Outlook: There may not be as much varsity experience as there was in 2018, but there is still a good amount of talent for head coach Gary Knittle and the Cardinals. Look for Canfield to just get better and better as the year goes on and be a team to watch come tourney time.
