Alexander Has The Tools To Help Kent State

MAYFIELD - Sebastian Alexander initiated contact with Kent State during the summer.

Soon after, Kent saw the 100th-rated 2020 in the state at the PBR Northern Ohio Limited Series.

There was a connection that eventually ended in a commitment to the Mid-American Conference school from the Mayfield senior.

“When I looked into the program I was impressed,” Alexander said. “I really didn’t think of them before. When I think of Division I in Ohio, I think of Ohio State. I didn’t realize that Kent was the best program in Ohio. After I started talking with them it was a smooth process.”

A visit to Kent took place after the Limited Series.

“They saw me at the Limited Series playing against Team Ohio and after that I went to their showcase and they got all my metrics,” Alexander noted. “I was impressed with the school as much as I was with their baseball. It’s a very nice school with academic opportunities and it’s one of the most reasonable financially. I think it deserves more credit than it gets.”

The baseball program is an added bonus for the 17th-ranked senior shortstop in Ohio.

“The facilities were very nice,” Alexander pointed out. “As a player that’s what you want, a sanctuary to work on your skills. That sets me up in a good position to work on everything I have.”

In Alexander, Kent has found a player with multiple skills.

“The big thing they like, as did all of the schools, was my athleticism,” Alexander said. “The number one word used was athleticism. They see me as a good athlete that can put all the tools on the field. When they talked about my skill set, they talked about multiple tools … speed, my hit tool and having a strong arm.”

Size and strength is where improvement has come of late for the right-handed hitting middle infielder.
