Inside the Rankings: Top 10 Class of 2021 Middle Infielders

With our latest rankings release for the 2021 class we decided to dive in deeper with a breakdown of the top 10 in each position. Today we continue on with middle infielders.
Disclaimer: Players listed below are ranked in order of their PRIMARY listed position on the website that they have chosen. A dual player that is also strong at their secondary position may carry more weight in their overall ranking.

Casey Saucke II SS / Greece Athena, NY / 2021
First Glimpse: Preseason - West (February 2018). Announced himself with a presence working 83-85 MPH on the mound with some middle of the field juice at the plate. The Future: The Virginia commit coupled his 2018 NYS Games efforts with an outstanding offensive effort at the 2018 Future Games in Indiana. Coming off a strong campaign in 2019 we are still hoping to see him again during 2020. |
Marcus Smith SS / All Hallows , NY / 2021
First Glimpse: Preseason - Downstate (February 2018). Ran a 7.00 60 and recorded an 87 MPH exit velocity that played well during BP. Actions and ranged pointed to a next level MIF immediately. The Future: The Liberty commit had a strong effort at the 2019 Future Games in Georgia, including a 3-run opposite field HR vs. a tough New Jersey arm. Hands showed well all week. Premium athlete. |
Reynaldo Angeles SS / Benjamin Cardozo , NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 19 / POS: 3
First Glimpse: Big Apple Preview (October 2017). One of the youngest players in attendance at the time. Showed easy efforts in the box and gliding actions up the middle. The Future: Uncommitted NYC resident who was ready to have a monster year ahead of him. Features all the tools that one would want to see up the middle plus a developing offensive game. |
Brian Fry SS / Medina, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 35 / POS: 4
First Glimpse: Preseason - West (February 2018). Sweeping swing that stays in the zone. Quick first step with an accurate arm. The Future: The Toledo commit had a solid all around effort at our Preseason All-State - WNY event back in February, lowering his 60 time to 7.03. Continues to show fluid actions on both sides of the ball. |
Antonio Pena SS / Bishop Loughlin, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 5
First Glimpse: Brooklyn Bonnies Workout (June 2019) The Future: Uncommitted MIF plays the game at a controlled pace with limited flash. The athleticism and skill set is there. As he physically matures and gets more games under his belt be on the lookout for a rise in the rankings. |
Ty Acker SS / Sachem East, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 54 / POS: 6
First Glimpse: East Coast Lumberjacks Workout (February 2020). One of the top performers on the afternoon. The Future: Uncommitted left side defender is poised to have a big summer once back out on the diamond. Look for developing power to be part of his game as he's shown the bat speed to cover the inner half of the plate. |
Trenton Rumley SS / St Mary's, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 67 / POS: 7
First Glimpse: Campus Series - Canisius (July 2017). Flat path into the zone with sound fundamentals up the middle. The Future: Uncommitted Rumley gets packs plenty of punch into his 5-foot-7 frame. Could stick at SS at the next level or possible move to 2B. Swings the bat with authority and we hope to see him again soon. |
Christopher Ubner 2B / Cooperstown, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 77 / POS: 1
First Glimpse: Northeast Pride Workout (February 2018). Quick bat with some upward lift through the zone. The Future: Uncommitted RHH is really starting to separate himself from the pack with not only his offensive capabilities but was recently up to 85 MPH on the bump as well. Part of an extremely talented infield at Cooperstown HS. |
Andrew Stillinger SS / Niagara Wheatfield, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 79 / POS: 8
First Glimpse: Rising Stars (February 2018). Short stroke, uses the whole field. Plenty of range with a quick release. The Future: Uncommitted WNY resident has an old school feel to him with the over-the-top release and table setter approach that uses the whole field. This gamer will be circled on a few clipboards this summer. |
Gialdri Gomez SS / Pearl River, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 89 / POS: 9
First Glimpse: Preseason - Downstate I (February 2020) The Future: Uncommitted LHH will only get stronger. Also posses a clean arm on the mound working in the 80-82 MPH range. Excited to have him at the NYS Games this summer. |
