Total Commits: 13
National Top 500: 9
Immediate Impact Player: Dawson Netz
Class Sleeper: Hunter Cope
OVERVIEW:
Combining some of the top in-state talent with strong players from California continues to allow the Wildcats to reload.
Jose Dicochea RHP / Sahuarita, AZ / 2019With some funkiness to his arm stroke, RHP Jose Dicochea’s 93 mph fastball plays up even harder as it jumps out of his quick hand out front. The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder is thin and wiry with plenty of room to fill out, and could make an even bigger jump in the future as he does so. His tightly-spun curveball features multi-tier break at a firmer, 74-76, and shows signs of being an out pitch at the next level. |
Dawson Netz RHP / Maranatha, CA / 2019In RHP Dawson Netz, Arizona is receiving an athletic pitcher with a quick arm who has a chance to start. Blazing fastballs up to 93 mph, Netz is a 6-foot, 175-pound wiry right-hander who challenges hitters with his fastball. His feel for a curveball, slider, and changeup help to keep hitters off his fastball, and could allow for him to make an immediate impact on campus. |
Hunter Cope RHP / Mater Dei, CA / 2019RHP Hunter Cope stands close to 7-feet tall, and impressively repeats his delivery while maintaining complete control of his long limbs. His 92 mph fastball plays up even higher given his release point, and he shows solid feel for both a slider and changeup. Coming from heralded high school program, Mater Dei, Cope will bring with him the experience of pitching in the top league in the country. |
GUT FEEL:
Chandler Murphy RHP / Liberty, AZ / 2019RHP Chandler Murphy may have the highest upside of any player in this Wildcats class, and should he realize that potential while on campus, Arizona may be getting a dominant pitcher. He is athletic at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with long-limbs and room to fill out, and has a fastball that gets up close to 90 mph with more to come. However, it is his ability to spin a tight slider that will help carry him in the future. |
FINAL THOUGHT:
Blake Klassen 1B / OF / JSerra, CA / 2019OF/1B Blake Klassen’s time spent at JSerra Catholic in one of the top high school programs in the country will only help his quick transition at the next level. The left-handed hitter is relaxed at the plate with a gap to gap approach that could develop even more power moving forward. His knack for getting hits and finding the barrel will be welcomed in Tucson. |
