Get to Know: Steven Echavarria

As the new year has come and gone, it's time to delve into the annual "Get to Know" segment. Each year prior to the season, we interview several of the state's top ranked seniors to get a look at the behind the scenes preparation for the spring. To keep us going, we sit down with Florida commit, RHP Steven Echavarria.




Get to Know: Steven Echavarria

Tell us about the decision-making process for your commitment? How excited are you to play there?
After decommitting from Oregon due to distance, I talked to a few schools and eventually narrowed down to Florida. I loved Florida when I visited and my family thought UF is a great spot for me.

If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?
A pitcher who attacks hitters and tries to compete with whoever is out there.
We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.
I’ve been working out a ton this off season trying to get stronger. I’ve also been working with Coach Wladyka on mechanics and pitching to get ready for the season.
Name three goals for the upcoming season.
Win counties, win states, throw strikes.

Do you have any pregame superstitions?
Nothing crazy except listening to music.
Who would you say your baseball role model is? Why?
I don’t necessarily have a role model but someone I really enjoy watching is DeGrom. He’s very fluid and it is like watching art.
