NC Top Prospect Games Record Book
August 15, 2019
Prep Baseball Report entered the North Carolina space in the summer of 2016. The summer of 2017 saw the first full slate of events and an explosion of coverage across the state. In July of 2017, the first Top Prospect Games was held, featuring players from across North Carolina competing at the University of North Carolina’s Boshamer Stadium.
The last two summers the event has moved to August, due to rain or scheduling, and to Jim Perry Stadium on the campus of Campbell University. The event has continued to thrive, featuring some of the best players in North Carolina. Now that three years are in the books, we can begin to look back and compare players from different years.
The setup at Prep Baseball Report allows player statistics and performances to be saved. This allows coaches, scouts, and even players to see how players from different graduating years may have stacked up when they were the same age. For events like the Top Prospect Games, PBR can compare and contrast players and create a record book for the event.
The 2019 Top Prospect Games were very successful with a lot of high end players on display for both pro scouts and college coaches. Below is a look at the updated record book for the Top Prospect Games in NC.

The 60 Yard Dash
Year 1 of the Top Prospect Games did not see a 60 run due to field conditions. A new record was set last week at the 2019 Top Prospect Games when Joey Ferrari ran a 6.70 on the artificial surface at Campbell. August can be a tough time to get a good 60, but several have run well.
Exit Velocity
2018 saw 4 of the top 6 exit velocities posted for the history of the NC Top Prospect Games. In 2019, Corey Avant posted a 97 mph exit velocity to get inside the top 5 in the record books.
Positional Velocity – Infielders
There have been some elite infielders roll through the NC Top Prospect Games in the past three years. From an arm stand point, the 2019 event rolled out the top two radar readings in the record book. Austin St. Laurent posted 90 mph across the diamond this year to top the record book.
Positional Velocity – Outfielders
Lukas Schramm was just off the PBR Future Games where he had the 2nd overall mark of outfielders at the event. Rolling into the 2019 NC Top Prospect Games, he topped the record books with an arm grade of 93 from right field. The top catcher pop time is owned by a 2022 grad who attended the 2019 Top Prospect Games, North Carolina State commit, Graham Smiley. He is joined inside the top 5 by two more from the 2019 TPG. Ryan McCrystal posted a 1.94 and Jacob Bebber reached 1.96 to make the record book.
For their positional velocity, the catchers are clocked out of their crouch and the top two slots belong to 2019 competitors with Ryan McCrystal taking the top spot at 84 mph out of his hand.
Max Fastball
Several good arms have rolled through the Top Prospect Games’ first three years. Cyle Phelan tied the top fastball mark with a 91 mph bolt this year. Not far behind is Jackson Kirkpatrick and Ryan McCrystal who both attended with Phelan in 2019.
