Pentz 'Fighting For His Dream' On The Ball Diamond

SUFFIELD, Ct. - “I’ve had a difficult recruiting process.”

That is an understatement by Jackson Pentz.

Tommy John surgery in the spring of junior year will do that to a pitcher.

“I’ve been pitching without my UCL,” explained Pentz.

It has relegated the Suffield senior to sending out videos to schools of interest, headlined by Ivy League colleges.

“It was the hardest summer of my life,” Pentz admitted. “To see my summer team go out there and see players get what they’ve been working for for so long and committing … I’m happy for them but sitting there not getting an opportunity and getting to showcase myself like I wanted was tough.”

It has also changed the 5-11 190-pounder, who has taken visits to Brown and Yale at this point in time with applications also sent out to 13 other schools.

“I spent a lot of time deciding what it’s worth to me,” Pentz explained. “I definitely said I want to give everything I have to come back and see where it takes my career. I don’t want to look back and wish I had worked harder when I was knocked down.”

The 127th-rated 2019 in New England is not about to give up on the hope of pitching at the next level.

“I went to showcases in the summer just to talk to colleges,” Pentz noted. “I made appearances and told them what I’m doing. I tried to show I have a lot of indepence. Essentially, I was fighting for my dream all summer.”

All the while, Pentz was in rehabilitation with his future in mind.
