Procase Spotlight Preview - Right Handed Pitchers
February 8, 2018
Sunday February 11th, Prep Baseball Report of NC will run its first PBR Procase at Diamond Xtreme in Kernersville, NC. The Procase is designed to bring top end pro prospects to one facility for PBR and area pro scouts to get an early look for the spring. The event roster will be kept very small with each player receiving a recommendation from pro scout to earn an invitation.
Pitching in the state of North Carolina has depth, with Owen White sitting atop the class of 2018 rankings. White will not be in attendance at the Procase as he is in the middle of basketball season, but there is a great corp of arms coming Sunday. All five arms are committed with each having a tremendous upside, that could come sooner than later.
Gianni Smith (2018, RHP, West Forsyth HS) and Jake Smith (2018, RHP, Chapel Hill HS) present different body types, but both with big arms. Gianni, a NC A&T commit, works from an over-the-top slot, creating downhill tilt and a fastball that jumps on hitters, topping at 91 during the State Games of NC. Jake, a UNC Wilmington commit, is ranked in the PBR Overall Top 300, touching 88 from an athletic delivery, in front of PBR staff. The fastball has been rumored to be in the low 90s at times, and there is easy projection in the arm as he continues to mature.
Bryce McGowan (2018, RHP, Cary HS) and Baker Nelson (2018, RHP, Harnett Central HS) are each in the 6-foot-1, 190 pound range with clean, athletic deliveries and strong arms. Each with a fastball near 90, the secondary stuff has a chance to be special. As each continues to gain strength, stuff could jump. McGowan is committed to Charlotte while Nelson is scheduled to attend NC State.
Logan Jarosz (2018, RHP, Eastern Alamance HS) is a unique prospect with a unique delivery. While the delivery may draw skepticism at first, he works to repeat and remains loose and fluid with the Koufax-esc rocker and leg kick. The fastball has ramped up to 91, and tends to play heavy.Committed to Chipola JC, Jarosz will have eyes on him this spring.
The final righty registered to attend is Kyle Mott (RHP, 2018, Fuquay Varina HS). Mott is a long, lanky athlete that missed part of the summer and fall circuit with some minor injury issues. He is back full go with a fastball rumored to be 91 or better.
