Future Games Spotlight: MIF Justin Word

From Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, Prep Baseball is hosting the next edition of its prestigious Future Games and Junior Future Games at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA., featuring the country's best uncommitted talent. And, for the first time ever, the Future Games is hosting not just its typical set of incoming juniors and freshmen, but also a 17U division of uncommitted Class of 2025 players who will participate in the inaugural Senior Future Games.

On the first day of the 2024 Future Games, all players representing grad classes 2025, 2026, and 2028 will be participating in a pro-style workout in front of a fleet of Division I coaches alongside fellow prospects representing nearly every state in the nation.

Today, we will begin spotlighting some of the standouts on Team Mississippi from the 2024 Future Games. First, we take a look at '26 MIF Justin Word.

Justin Word, St. Andrew's Episcopal (MS), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-10, 161-pounds. Uber athletic, leaner and physical frame. Can continue to fill out.
Hit: RHH. Wider and balanced stance with higher hand set. Controlled load with very small knee lift into stride. Quick bat with a middle of the field, line drive approach. 68.4 mph bat speed with 19 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 83.5 mph. 327' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-83 mph. Quick arm action.
Defense: Advanced look on the infield. Good footwork and range. Solid glovework with a quick transfer for a good throw to 1st. Arm getting stronger with maturity. Plus upside!
ATH: 6.93 runner in the 60. 20.70 max vertical.

Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-10, 162-pounds. Well developed lower half. Athletic build.
Hit: RHH. Balanced with the feet, toe tap trigger. Does a nice job turning the barrel with solid bat speed. Looseness in the hands with juice to the pullside. 77 mph bat speed with 23 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 89.5 mph. 331' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-79 mph. Higher arm slot, over-the-top.
Defense: Flashed the glove early and the feet work extremely well.
ATH: 7.06 runner in the 60. 1.78 and 3.97 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 27.30 max vertical.

Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-10, 150-pounds. Athletic frame with room to add size.
Hits: RHH. Tall. Athletic looking stance with hands slightly inside back shoulder. Easy, controlled load and stride. Slight knee lift. Level bat path with quick hands. Works with the pitch for an all fields line drive approach. Big time upside as a hitter!
Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 77 MPH. 306' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-74 mph.Quick arm action
Defense: Polished look for 2026. Advanced footwork with solid hands. Natural tranfers and maturing arm. Next level upside.
