Mississippi Preseason All-State: Quick Hits

PBR Mississippi Staff

Madison, MS - The Mississippi Preseason All-State was held on Saturday, January 21st at the Southern Performance Institute in Madison, MS. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2023-2026 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 30 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Saturday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Saturday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

QUICK HITS

MIF Baylor Roberts (Saltillo, 2025) was a PBR Junior Future Games participant last spring and the one concern if any was size. That shouldn’t be a concern any longer as Roberts, though still lean, had a growth spurt and it transferred into his game with significant increases in a few of his metrics. Fluid on defense as always, Roberts now is showing extra pop at the plate with exit velocities this weekend around consistently in the upper 80’s with a high of 90 mph. As his frame continues to add mass expect Roberts to continue to attract more and more attention from recruiters.

C/RHP Jayden Adcox (Forest, 2023) the East Central CC signee showcased all of his tools for our staff one last time this past Saturday. Adcox has attended a handful of our events throughout his playing career and we are excited to see him continue to develop at the next level. Had arguably one of the best rounds of batting practice at the All-State event, looks to punish the baseball with each swing with some natural lift. Recorded a top EV at the event at 97 mph. During the defensive workout at the event, showed some athleticism behind the dish with pop times in the 2.04-2.19 range. Hopped on the mound and showcased a quality three pitch offering, the fastball played in the 85-87 mph range, Adcox also flashed a breaking ball and changeup as offspeed offerings in the low-to-mid-70's.

3B Jackson Moore (Tishomingo County, 2025) is another former PBR Junior Future Games member that continues to excel. Although he’s a lock down third baseman with a solid arm, the sophomore continues to gain attention with his increasingly high exit velocities and plus power potential. The 6-0 180 pound righty can pitch as well with a fastball that sits in the low to mid 80’s and solid secondary stuff. Moore continues to do the things that put him on a short list for an invitation to this summer’s Future Games.

OF/LHP Cayden Prestage (Itawamba, 2026) is a two time Junior Future Gamer who made an appearance in Madison, MS this weekend for our Preseason All-State. Prestage had an all around solid performance on Saturday, it all started in the box, shows an advanced approach for his age, had multiple liners to the gaps during his BP round with a top EV of 86 mph. During the defensive workout, showed off solid arm strength where he was up to 92 mph and then finished up on the mound, where he worked in a three pitch mix, the fastball played arm side in the low-80's, and he also flashed a quality breaking ball and changeup as offspeed offerings. High level follow in the 2026 class.

MIF Justin Word (St. Andrew’s, 2026) attended the Knights Knation Scout Day in the fall of 2021 and everyone could see he was coming. Well, he’s finally arrived. The freshman showed very smooth and fluid actions on defense with advanced feet and glove work and plenty of arm to play the left side of the diamond. Word also has a very polished and mature swing for a 2026 and works the middle of the field consistently with controlled aggression into contact. Stay tuned as this young man will continue to cause a stir and the recruitment radar.

RHP Brodie Wedgeworth (Oak Grove, 2023) is an uncommitted arm with stuff to get outs at the next level. The 6-2 175 pound righty sat 82-83 (T84) at our Preseason All-State Showcase on Saturday with solid arm side action and a changeup that will give hitters absolute fits. With advanced feel for his slider which features very good sweeping action, expect a lot of swings and misses or very soft contact from opposing hitters in 2023.

OF Tai Jones (Brandon, 2026) was a participant at one of our Rising Stars events in 2021 and while he performed well, his body needed more time. He has since put in tons of work and his development is evident. The outfielder was up to 85 mph from the outfield on Saturday with a more mature presence amongst some of the top players in the state. Jones uses lots of rhythm in his hands at the plate and rattled off several line drives during his bp round with exit velocities holding steady in the mid 80’s range.

INF Cole Prosek (Magnolia Heights, 2026) the Ole Miss commit was easily one of the top performers from the event this Saturday, everything just seems to work effortlessly and easy for him. The left-handed hitting infielder had one of the more smooth strokes in the box during his round of batting practice, where he consistently found the barrel and produced solid contact with some natural lift in the swing, also had a top EV of 89 mph. Defensively sound and smooth, easy and clean actions to go along with an a strong and athletic arm.

C Coy Clements (Oak Grove, 2024) the Former Future gamer who has recently come into the Sip from Idaho had a stellar performance this weekend at our event as well. Another power bat that we were excited to see put together a strong showing during his round of batting practice. Repeatable and easy swing from the right side, creates some leverage in the swing with the 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. Collected several EV's in the 90's during the event and posted a max EV of 96 mph at the event. One of the top defensive prospects behind the plate at the event, pop times in the 2.03-2.12 range with a 75 mph velo to go along with it. Will be exciting to see Clements in the Oak Grove lineup this spring.

RHP Jack Ketchum (Heritage Academy, 2024) uses unusually long arm action on the mound with stuff galore. The 6-3 205 pound righty featured an event best 88 mph fastball with very solid arm side action and 2300 spin. His sweeping slider will get tons of swings and misses with sharp late action and spin rates hovering around 2400. Right handed hitters will not enjoy facing Ketchum this spring and his uncommitted tag will probably be removed in the near future.

RHP Jarvis Woody (Ridgeland, 2025) showed up to our Preseason All-State Showcase on Saturday as a pitcher only and within 30 minutes left a lasting impression. We had heard about the 6-2 righty but had yet to see what many have been saying, “you need to get eyes on him”. Woody did not disappoint with a fastball that was consistently around 84 mph and more on the way very soon He also showed us a glimpse of his solid secondary stuff that will keep hitters on their toes. Woody led the Titans in wins and strikeouts as a freshman so has lots of in-game experience to build from heading into 2023. Expect recruiters to be hanging out in Ridgeland quite a bit this spring.

OF Jackson White (Wayne Academy, 2024) White stands out with his lean and athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, a lot of tools to go along with the body as well. Was another standout from the event in Madison on Saturday, had a noteworthy round of batting practice to go along with a handful of others from the event. Creates some natural lift and tilt in the swing, easy and loose hands with solid barrel control, posted a top EV at 96 mph from the event, defensively was clean from the outfield, athletic arm that was up to 88 mph. Interesting prospect follow in the 2024 class.

OF Brooks Crawley (Northwest Rankin, 2026) the list of 2026 talent that was at this event continues to add up and Crawley was right there in the mix. The switch hitting outfielder put on a display during his round of BP on Saturday in Madison, not only from the left side but consistently found loud contact from both sides of the box. Recorded an EV of 95 mph during the event. Plenty of potential upside to the frame at 6-foot-0, 190-pounds as well.
