Updated Class 2019 Rankings

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

It’s been a busy several months since the last update to the Class of 2019 rankings. As we have worked our way through the early part of the summer schedule, and now begin our approach into the final few weeks of the 2018 summer season, more light has been shed on this talented class. There has been significant shakeup throughout the list with some significant risers, and additions to the list, which has expanded to 140 players.

The update of the 2019 class will begin the process of dusting off and updating the Mississippi class rankings, so be sure to check-in regularly in the weeks to come, as there will plenty of updates and content to keep you busy.

Now, let’s dive into the class of 2019 rankings with a few highlights from the updated list...

+ The top ten remains largely intact as, Mississippi recruits, OF Jerrion Ealy (Jackson Prep., MS) and C Hayden Dunhurst (Pearl River Central HS, MS) along with Mississippi State recruits, RHP Logan Tanner (George County HS, MS), SS Kamren James (DeSoto Central HS, MS), and C Austin Kelly (Washington HS, MS) all remain in the top five.

+  Preseason Prospect ID standout, Billy Garrity (Sumrall HS, MS) climbs to No. 12 in the updated list. A two sport athlete and already one of the state’s top left-handed hitters, Garrity hit .341 with eight home runs, and stole five bases in his junior season.

+ RHP Mitch Murrell (Ocean Springs HS, MS) had breakout performances this fall at the Preseason Prospect ID, and the annual MS All-State Games. The physical 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-hander has continued to rise up boards this summer, showing an athletic delivery with a clean, loose arm action, and quick arm speed, running his fastball up to 90 mph.

+ C/RHP Caleb Sterlings (Warren Central HS, MS) climbs to No. 28 in the updated list. A lean, athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame, he showed off high-level catch and throw skills, posting a top pop time of 1.81-seconds, while showing feel to hit with bat speed, and strength at contact from his left-handed stroke. A two-way prospect, his stuff is solid on the mound running his fastball up to 86 mph with fill to command the zone.
