Taking a Look at the Pre-Season ID Showcase Top Performers
February 5, 2020
1. Braden Montgomery (Madison Central, 2022)
Montgomery’s ability to affect each game in many capacities is why he’s our #1. Armed with an explosive fastball and accurate arm from the outfield, defensively he sets himself apart. The Stanford commit also possesses gap to gap power potential from both sides of the plate.
2. Logan Forsythe (D’Iberville, 2022)
Another duel threat, Forsythe’s fastball reached 89 mph which was the peak of the day for all players and he’s only a sophomore! The Mississippi State commit also looked sure handed on defense in both the infield and outfield, while running a 6.87 60.
3. Jackson Cheek (Nettleton, 2022)
Cheek definitely turned some heads with an event best 95 mph exit velocity. Only a sophomore, he didn’t disappoint on the mound either with a fastball that reached 84 mph.
4. Jackson Parker (Stringer, 2022)
Parker, also a Mississippi State commit, showed off his power potential during batting practice, reaching an exit velocity of 92. The left handed pitcher looked polished on the mound as well showing good feel for his breaking ball and a fastball that reached 84.
5. Patrick Spencer (Washington, 2023)
The right handed pitcher caught some eyes and will be a hot commodity very soon. With a frame that will continue to solidify, the freshmen sat at 83-84 mph on the mound with solid secondary stuff.
6. Hayes Puckett (Madison Ridgeland Academy, 2021)
Puckett led all catchers with an event best 1.92 pop time and was very consistent with his throws. He looked solid at the plate with a very balanced and repeatable swing, and also ran a 6.94 60.
7. Adam May (Magee, 2021)
May was one of the more versatile players at the event and should begin to receive lots of attention from college recruiters. He was very consistent across the board in many categories including a sub-7 60, 84mph fastball, and looked very polished defensively.
8. Manning Miller (Brookhaven, 2022)
Miller is an arm to follow! Just a sophomore the righty was up to 85 mph this past weekend and showed the ability to spin the breaking ball well.
9. Cole Smith (Florence, 2021)
Another sturdy frame from the event, Smith’s 88 mph fastball was the second highest velocity of the day. Showed a very polished delivery and looks to have more in the tank.
10. Ross Highfill (Madison Central, 2022)
Another good looking receiver, Highfill’s 1.93 pop time was good for second on the day. Just a sophomore, look for that number to get a even better and more consistent. At the plate, Highfill looked very balanced and drove baseballs to all fields.
