Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the St. Louis Winter Open Showcase at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, MO on February 8.  Over seventy players in the 2021 to 2024 classes attended.

Today, we will take a look at the infielders from the day.  Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. Players listed below are in alphabetical order.

INFIELDERS

Derek Archer SS / RHP / Francis Howell North, MO / 2022 Archer is a 5-foot-9, 135-pound, right-handed hitting infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.10 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 71 mph. At the plate, smaller frame, leg lift into load, quick bat, slight uphill tilt to bat path, looks to lift the baseball, some barrel control, leverages front side. On the infield, quick side-to-side movements, attacks the baseball, glove tap with transfers, low three-quarter release, 77 mph across the infield, accurate throws.

Bryer Arview SS / RHP / Civic Memorial, IL / 2023 Arview is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound, left-handed hitting middle infielder in Illinois’ 2023 class. He ran a 7.06 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During batting practice, Arview starts in an upright but balanced stance, some rhythm with hands, in line stride, looks to lift the baseball, contact was to primarily the middle of the field with a few flairs mixed in. Defensively, athletic actions, quick first step, fluid footwork, clean transfers, arm works, three-quarter release, positional velo of 76 mph across the infield, mostly accurate throws.

Evan Baugh OF / 2B / Francis Howell, MO / 2020 Baugh is a stocky 5-foot-8, 175-pound, right-handed hitting infielder and outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.41 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, Baugh starts in a narrow stance, in line stride, controls the barrel, flat bat path, showed middle to opposite field contact during round. On the infield, Baugh moves well laterally, clean transfers, high three-quarter release, 69 mph across the infield, accurate throws.

Drew Baughman OF / 2B / CBC, MO / 2021 Baughman is a wirey 5-foot-10, 155-pound, outfield and middle infield prospect in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.20 second 60 and posted and exit velocity of 93 mph. At the plate, starts in a crouched position, knee pinch to his load, quiet hands, looks to lift the baseball, aggressive with his back hip, show strong contact during round primarily the middle and pull side parts of the field. Defensively on the infield, Baughman has quick actions, stays low to the ground, moves well side-to-side, clean transfers, strong arm with a three-quarter release, positional velo of 81 mph across the diamond.

Chase Beattie 3B / SS / Holt, MO / 2022 Beattie is a physical 5-foot-10, 205-pound, right-handed hitting infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, he ran a 7.25 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 94 mph. During batting practice, Beattie showed pop to all fields, lift to his swing, feel for his barrel, quite load, dives towards the plate with his stride, balanced swing, high finish with hands. On the infield, 84 mph across the diamond, quick transfer to throw, quick arm, three-quarter release, mostly accurate throws.

Kyle Byrne 1B / LHP / CBC, MO / 2023 Byrne is a 6-foot, 185-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.15 60 and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, Byrne starts in an athletic and relaxed stance, minimal load, quiet hands, in line stride, minimal head movement, remains balanced throughout, uphill bat path with a high finish with hands, contact was to the middle and showed plus pop during round. On the infield, 73 mph velo at 1B, short over the top arm slot, fluid footwork, soft hand, clean exchange mostly accurate throws.

Anthony Boyer 2B / OF / Blue Springs , MO / 2022 Boyer is a slender 5-foot-9, 135-pound, right-handed hitting infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.50 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 77 mph. During batting practice, Boyer starts slightly open, high set up with hands, in line stride, remains balanced throughout, high finish with hands, showed contact during round to primarily middle and opposite fields. Defensively, Boyer is aggressive to the baseball, moves well side-to-side, clean transfers, three-quarter release, 75 mph positional velocity across the infield, accurate throws.

Andrew Castelli 3B / RHP / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2021 Castelli is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.23 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph, both improvements from the previous event he attended. At the plate, Castelli starts in an open stance, balanced, smooth load with hands, in line stride, flat bat path, quick bat, produced middle contact during round with occasional pop. Defensively, smooth actions, clean transfers, low three-quarter release, 73 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws.

Kyle Czeschin SS / RHP / Timberland, MO / 2022 Czeschin is a slender 6-foot, 155-pound, right-handed hitting infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 6.89 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. During hitting evaluations, athletic stance, quiet hands, reverse toe tap into load, in line stride, repeatable swing, loose wrists, flat bat path, showed middle to pull side contact during round. Defensively, athletic actions, moves well laterally, clean transfers, momentum towards target, clean arm, 74 mph across the infield, mostly accurate throws.

Jack DuMont LHP / 1B / St. Louis University , MO / 2022 DuMont is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound, left-handed pitcher and corner infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.52 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph at the event. At the plate, DuMont swings it from the right side, balanced set up, simple load, dives slightly with his stride, leverages front side, looked to lift the baseball during round, showed a gap-to-gap approach with occasional pop. Defensively, moves well for his size, clean arm action, three-quarter release, 75 mph positional velo, accurate throws.

Brice Eiserer SS / RHP / Carrollton, MO / 2022 Eiserer is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound, right-handed hitting infield prospect and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.31 second 60 and post an exit velocity of 80 mph, both improved from his previous event. During batting practice, starts narrow, some rhythm to hands and body into load, in line stride, simple and compact swing, produced mostly middle and pull side contact during round, flat bat path, repeats swing. Defensively, Eiserer is aggressive to the baseball, shows some athleticism and range, clean transfers, three-quarter slot, positional velo of 75 mph, accurate throws.

Blayne Holman 3B / OF / Francis Howell, MO / 2022 Holman is a 6-foot, 205-pound, corner infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 8.13 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, Holman starts in an upright and balanced stance, quiet load with hands, slightly open stride, uphill path to his swing, remains balanced throughout, showed some pull pop during round with primarily fly ball contact. Defensively, Holman has clean transfers, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 63 mph with mostly accurate throws.

Max Holmes 1B / RHP / Belleville West, IL / 2023 Holmes is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound, right-handed hitting corner infielder and right-handed pitcher in Illinois’ 2023 class. He ran a 8.43 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 71 mph. During batting practice, Holmes starts with an open stance, good momentum into load, in line stride, looked to lift the ball during round, produced primarily opposite field fly ball contact. Defensively at first base, quick off the base, clean transfers, high three-quarter release, 62 mph positional velo, accurate throws across the infield.

Matthew James 3B / RHP / Francis Howell , MO / 2021 James is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher and corner infielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.15 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 90 mph. During batting practice, James starts open, toe tap into load, rhythm to hands, flat bat path, hit the ball hard to all fields, showed some control to the barrel. On the infield, shows athleticism, moves well, easy arm action, three-quarter release, 84 mph across the infield, very accurate throws.

Tripp Johns 3B / 1B / Lafayette , MO / 2023 Johns is a big bodied 6-foot-2, 215-pound corner infielder in Missouri’s 2023 class. He ran a 7.89 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 88 mph. During batting practice, Johns starts in a relaxed and upright stance, leg lift, in line stride, flat bat path, mostly pull side contact with flashes of some pop. Defensively on the infield, Johns moves well for this size, shows some athleticism, glove tap with his transfers, 78 mph across the infield, mostly accurate throws.

Aaron Levenson 3B / RHP / CBC, MO / 2022 Levenson has a stronger build at 5-foot-11 and 185-pounds and is a right-handed hitting infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.83 second 60 and posted and exit velocity of 88 mph. At the plate, Levenson had a good showing during batting practice, pop to the opposite field, simple load, rhythm to hands, some feel for his barrel, smaller leg lift, in line stride, balanced throughout, high finish with hands. Defensively, moves well side-to-side, clean transfers, three quarter release, 81 mph across the infield, mostly accurate throws.

Dominic Marino 2B / RHP / Lindbergh, MO / 2022 Marino is a lean 6-foot-2, 170-pound, middle infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.44 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. At the plate, Marino starts in an upright but balanced set up, toe tap into load, long limbs that create leverage, in line stride, flat bat path, some feel for the barrel, showed a gap-to-gap approach during round with occasional pop. Defensively, aggressive to the ball, clean transfers, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 72 mph, accurate throws.

Luke Matschiner 2B / SS / CBC, MO / 2022 Matschiner is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, he showed good foot speed and ran a 7.07 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. At the plate, Matschiner starts in an athletic stance, small leg lift, minimal load, in line stride, during round showed contact to the middle of the field with occasional lift. Jake Millard 1B / OF / Lutheran - St. Charles, MO / 2022 Millard is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound, left-handed hitting corner infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.81 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, Millard starts in a relaxed and balanced stance, simple weight shift into his load, in line stride, looks to lift the baseball, high finish with hands, balanced throughout, sprayed contact and showed plus pop at times throughout round. Defensively at first base, Millard has very accurate throws across the infield, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 59 mph.

Nolan Miller 3B / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2021 Miller is a big bodied and physical 6-foot, 187-pound, infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.26 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. At the plate, Miller starts in an athletic stance, leg lift, some rhythm to hands, in line stride, quick bat, hard contact to all fields, showed some pop during round, aggressive with back hip. Jacob Mishkin 1B / OF / Crossroads College Prep, MO / 2022 Mishkin is a 5-foot-9, 145- pound, left-handed hitting, corner infielder and outfielder in Missouri’s 20222 class. He ran a 7.60 second to 60 and posted and exit velocity of 78 mph. At the plate, Mishkin starts open, in line stride, some rhythm to his hands, loose wrists, looks to lift the baseball, produced middle and pull side contact during round. Defensively at first base, moves well laterally, quick transfer to release, quick arm, positional velocity of 65 mph, very accurate throws.

Ben Pearson OF / SS / Notre Dame , MO / 2022 Pearson is a long and lean 6-foot, 155-pound, left-handed hitting infield and outfielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 7.20 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. At the plate, Pearson starts narrow, simple load, minimal negative movement with hands, quick bat, some uphill tilt to his swing, some feel for the barrel, showed middle and pull side contact during round. Jack Schark SS / 2B / Home school, MO / 2021 Schark has a strong build and athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 6.61 second 60, fastest recorded at the event. During batting practice, Schark posted an exit velocity of 91 mph, quick bat, loose hands, drove the ball to all fields during round, showed control of his barrel, in line stride, aggressive with his back hip. Jack Schroeder 3B / SS / Christian Brothers College , MO / 2022 Schroeder is a lean 6-foot, 165-pound, right-handed hitting infield prospect in Missouri’s 2022 class. He showed some foot speed running a 6.93 second 60 at the event. Ethan Smock SS / RHP / Timberland, MO / 2023 Smock is a 5-foot-7, 135-pound, right-handed hitting middle infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2023 class. He ran a 7.47 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 74 mph. During batting practice, Smock starts in an open stance, toe tap into load, some rhythm with hands, some feel for the barrel, sprayed the ball to all fields during round. Jeff Strobl 2B / SS / St. Mary's , MO / 2020 Strobl is a 5-foot-7, 145-pound, middle infield prospect in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event, he ran a 7.14 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During hitting evaluations, Strobl starts in an upright and slightly open stance, simple load, slightly closed with stride, maintains balance throughout swing, barreled up baseballs and showed the ability to hit to all fields during round. Beau Temple OF / SS / Owasso, OK / 2021 Temple is a solid 5-foot-11, 178-pound, right-handed hitting outfield and middle infield prospect from Oklahoma’s 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.72 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, Temple appears big and physical, starts in an upright stance, smooth actions into his load, in line stride, leverages up a firm front side, flat bat path through the zone, some feel for the barrel, sprayed contact to all fields during round. At the plate, Ulm starts with a wider but balanced stance, minimal load, quiet with hands, in line stride, looks lift the baseball, showed primarily pull side contact during round. Cole Vance SS / 2B / Liberty - Wentzville, MO / 2022 Vance is a lean 5-foot-11, 155-pound, right-handed hitting infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. He ran a 6.89 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. At the plate, Wolff starts slightly open, simple load, minimal hand movement, inside out approach at the plate, barrel control, showed pop to all fields during batting practice. Defensively, Wolff is light on his feet, smooth actions, clean transfers, arm works, 68 mph positional velocity and mostly accurate throws.
