St. Louis Winter Open: 2020-2019 Infield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Missouri held the St. Louis Winter Open on February 9 at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, Missouri. Over ninety players participated in the 2022 to 2018 classes.

2019-2020 Infielders
Jonas Barnes SS / OF / Granite City High School, IL / 2020Barnes is a 6-foot, 175 pound right-handed hitting shortstop. He ran a 7.33 60 and posted an exit velocity of 91mph. Barnes was impressive both offensively and defensively. At the plate, slightly open set up, simple and easy load, long stride, flat bat path, gets extended, works inside the ball, middle of the field approach but will go the other way. On the infield, soft hands, fluid feet, clean exchange, plays through the ball, high 3/4 arm slot, carry on throws, 80 mph across the diamond. |
Chayton Beck C / SS / Liberty , MO / 2020Beck is a 6-foot-1, 170 pound right-handed hitting catcher, infielder, and right-handed pitcher. Beck impressed at the showcase. He ran a 7.63 60 and posted an exit velocity of 89 mph. At the plate, balanced setup, smooth load with a slight wrap, fast bat speed, level bat path, pull-side approach, powerful contact. On the infield, soft hands, clean exchange, short arm action, high 3/4 arm slot, throws with carry at 82 mph. |
Phil Brennaman 3B / RHP / Oak Park, MO / 2020Brennaman is an athletic 6-foot, 180 pound right-handed hitting infielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.02 60 and posted an exit velo of 92 mph. Brennaman was impressive in all aspects of his game. At the plate, tall set up, smooth load, fast bat speed, short and level bat path, gap to gap approach, 92 mph exit velocity. Tyler Cann 1B / 3B / Francis Howell Central, MO / 2020Cann is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound, right-handed hitting corner infielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran an 8.00 60 yard dash and posted an exit velocity of 89 mph. During hitting evaluations, Cann starts in an open stance, simple load, rhythm with hands, longer in line stride, remains balanced throughout, level bat path, extension through the baseball. Defensively at first base, Cann moves well laterally, light on his feet, good actions, clean arm action, three-quarter release, positional velo of 79 mph, mostly accurate throws. |
Logan Cromer SS / 2B / Edwardsville , IL / 2020Cromer is an athletically built 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Illinois' 2020 class. He ran a 7.66 60 and has an 82 mph positional velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, quick pre-pitch rhythm in hands, leg kick with load in hands, in line stride, aggressive bat speed, middle to pull side line drives.
