St. Louis Top Prospect Games: Upperclass Preview

By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

On Tuesday, June 20th, the PBR Missouri staff will travel to the campus of Lindenwood University to host the annual St. Louis Top Prospect Games: Upperclass. This invite-only event will feature several of the area’s top 2024 and 2025 prospects, and those in attendance will participate in a pro-style workout, followed by a simulated game.

Over the years, this event has provided our staff with an up-close look at some of the state’s premier underclass talent. These ‘Top Prospect’ events, like all of our PBR showcases, serve as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the PBR Future Games.

ROSTER PREVIEW

Similarly to years past, this roster is shaping up nicely and there’s multiple talented names scattered from top to bottom. Below you’ll find a few names to know making their way to Lindenwood this week:

Charles Bennett OF / Parkway South, MO / 2024

From 4/6/23: “…Uncommitted. 6-foot, 165-pound left/left athlete. Hit leadoff and started in right field for the Patriots in this look. Short, direct path to contact, top-of-the-order type with a knack for contact. Advanced runner, knows how to effectively use his speed on offense. Moved comfortably around the outfield in I/O pregame with footwork feel."

Michael Callahan OF / Lafayette , MO / 2025

From 4/6/23“...5-foot-11, 165-pound lean, athletic, well-proportioned athlete with a frame more than capable of adding strength over the next few years. Hit in the two-hole and started in left field for Lafayette in this look. Effortless athleticism, easy hand speed and rhythm at the plate. Drove a hard double into the right-center gap with authority. Also made a stellar diving grab in left field. Batting .379 with a .983 OPS over 37 plate appearances this spring, stealing six bags and walking (7) more than he’s struck out (4).”

Jake Collier LHP / Pacific, MO / 2025

From 5/23/23: “…athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with compact strength, particularly in the lower half. Drew the start for the Indians in a district quarterfinal win, tossing six innings of unearned ball while striking out seven and not walking one. Simple, fluid, and athletic mover, arm works of a tight window and finishes from a fast ¾ slot. Fastball pitched in the low-to-mid-80s, touching 85 mph, and he consistently worked his curveball and changeup in the zone to keep hitters off balance. Also had a deep double in the contest to the pull-side gap to plate a couple of runs in a key moment. One of the state’s top sophomore arms that concluded his second season with a 1.62 ERA over 34 ⅔ innings, punching out 53 and walking only 13."

Cameron Cooper SS / Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School, MO / 2025

Physical 6-foot-2, 190-pound athlete with present strength and plenty room to add more, really looks the part. Long barrel through the zone with hand speed, was a name-to-know from the US Nationals Scout Day in February and also recently showed well at the National Program Invitational in LakePoint, GA.

Hayden Gilmore LHP / Kennett, MO / 2025

From 2/9/23: “…physically speaking, Gilmore’s 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame is plenty projectable, and it’s easy to see him adding quality muscle mass from now until he graduates high school. Offensively, Gilmore’s barrel stays long through the zone, and he favors elevating the baseball, working gap-to-gap in this look. He averaged 260 ft. per batted ball, maxing at 311 ft., and recording a 90.5 mph max exit velocity. On the mound, Gilmore pitched at 82-83 mph with his fastball, flashing feel for a 74-75 mph changeup and spinning a 72-75 mph slider with some depth as well."

Max Guenther OF / Francis Howell , MO / 2024

From 2/15/23: “…provided another strong look this past weekend. Guenther packs a punch within his 5-foot-9, 165-pound stature, launching his furthest batted ball 374 ft., which finished a foot behind the day’s leader. He almost exclusively elevated the baseball (80% fly ball), averaging 261 ft. per batted ball, and squared his firmest batted ball up at 94.2 mph. Guenther was up to 87 mph from the outfield and ran a 7.05 in the 60."

Nathan Higgins 1B / Seckman, MO / 2024

From 2/15/23: “…the 6-foot-2, 225-pound left-handed hitter showed out at the Missouri Fall Upperclass Games in the fall and improved on those metrics at Saturday’s event. Higgins pounded baseballs from a strong, uphill swing, averaging 88.2 mph per batted ball with a 94.8 mph peak. He did so while elevating the baseball consistently, including a 348 ft. peak distance and 249 ft. average. Higgins is a middle-of-the-order type bat that should produce greatly for his high school squad this upcoming spring."

Gabe Huelsing OF / Oakville Senior, MO / 2025

From 2/15/23: “…is a twitchy, upside athlete with loud tools attached to a 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. Huelsing’s 91 mph high from the outfield was the second highest number across the entire event, and his 95.9 mph max exit velocity was second amongst left-handed hitters in attendance. Huelsing’s furthest batted ball traveled 353 feet, the fifth highest metric of all prospects at this event, and his 256 ft. average batted distance also finished near the top of our batted ball leaderboard. His fastball played at 83-85 mph on the mound and he spun two above-average breaking balls in his ‘pen to complement it. Huelsing also ran a 7.09 60, with a 1.67 10-yard split, and jumped 30.1 inches in the vertical. He’s certainly a name-to-know in Missouri’s sophomore group that should positively impact Oakville’s squad this spring."

Cameron Lee C / Father Tolton Regional Catholic, MO / 2024

From 4/25/23: “…uncommitted. Lean, wiry 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame with upside. Was a standout at the Missouri State Preseason ID this past winter and continues to trend upward. Rocketed a double deep off his barrel to the left-center field fence. Launched a foul ball onto the football field, roughly 30 feet behind the left field fence later on in the game. Floats around center field comfortably, too."

Evan Mannebach 1B / St. Dominic, MO / 2024

From 4/25/23: “…large, physical 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame with strength throughout. Flashed clear bat strength off his left-handed barrel in this look, squaring two balls up with authority, including a rocketed double. Has shown our staff that level of raw power in previous looks; reached a peak exit velocity of 99.3 mph this winter, averaging 88.2 mph per batted ball."

Lucas Pearson 3B / Francis Howell Central, MO / 2024

From 2/20/23: “…boasts a strong, thick 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame, and his natural strength certainly showed at the plate. His 99.7 mph max exit velocity finished second on our leaderboard, and his 87.5 mph average mark is noticeably above average, too."

Easton Phillippe C / Staley, MO / 2025

From 3/2/23: “…also caught our eye during Saturday’s workout. Phillippe continued to impress as a defender, repeating consistent throws on the bag with a strong arm (77 mph) for his age. His left-handed swing has added strength over the off-season and he works on top of the baseball from a flat, simple operation."

Carson Ramos C / Timberland , MO / 2025

From 3/30/23: "... 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame with strength throughout, particularly in the lower half. Started behind the plate for Timberland in one of our looks, played third base in the other. Works short and direct to the baseball, stays flat through the zone. Launched a no-doubt grand slam over the left field fence and took competitive at-bats against a quality arm throughout. Also a steady receiver defensively behind the plate with soft hands and a willingness to block. One of the top sophomore catchers in Missouri."

Sam Sailors OF / Parkway Central, MO / 2024

From 2/20/23: “…was a winner at the St. Louis Open last fall and, once again, left a positive impression on our scouts after this event. Sailors stands at a projectable 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, though he’s athletic in stature with lean strength attached. He swung a fast right-handed bat in BP and was all over the barrel, generating quick rotation out of his load while attacking the inner-half of the plate. He almost exclusively generated line drives, and his 95.7 mph max exit velocity was an 8.1 mph increase from last fall. Sailors average exit velocity (87.2 mph) also saw a noticeable increase from his last event (71.5 mph), and it’s a testament to the improvements he’s made in multiple areas this off-season. Sailors rounded out his day by topping at 87 mph from the outfield on his firmest bullet. He’ll look to build off this performance in the spring on a Parkway Central team with their sights set on a return to Ozark."

Eli Tritinger RHP / Parkway North, MO / 2024

From 2/23/23: …Led the event in max fastball velocity, topping at 87.6 mph, while holding 86-87 mph throughout. Tritinger flashed sweep on his slider, throwing it from a similar ¾ slot to his fastball at 75-77 mph, spinning at 2200+ RPM. He also limited both spin and lift on his changeup, creating 16+ inches of run on average at 78-79 mph from his fastball arm slot. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound uncommitted junior will be one to follow into the spring and summer in 2023."

Tyler Weber LHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2024

From 4/31/23: "... 6-foot-5, 205-pound physically imposing frame. Was a top arm for the Cadets this spring, punching out 46 over 33 2/3 innings on the hill. Attended the US Nationals Scout Day this winter, showing a three-pitch mix, including an 83-84 mph fastball from a tough, deceptive 3/4 angle. Spun a bendy breaking ball at 69-72 mph, turned over a firm changeup at 77-78 mph."

Lucas Wietholder SS / Father Tolton Catholic, MO / 2025

From 3/1/23: "... really looked the part of a high-follow sophomore. Wietholder’s added strength since we saw him in the fall, filling more of his 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, yet still leaving room for more projection down the road. He took an excellent round of BP, working gap-to-gap from a faster, more consistently on the barrel swing, averaging 90.1 mph with a 95.4 mph peak. For reference, Wietholder’s max exit velocity at our fall underclass games was 89.9 mph, and his average mark at that event was 82 mph. Wietholder’s furthest batted ball on Saturday traveled 350 feet, a 51 foot increase from September. He’s an asset on the infield too, flowing freely with lateral range, athletic feet, and soft hands to pair, all while topping at 83 mph across. Wietholder, who helped lead Father Tolton Catholic to a state championship as a freshman last spring, is a name-to-know infielder in Missouri’s 2025 class."
