Q&A with Murray State Commit Weston Schad (Westminster, 2017)

Weston Schad (Westminster, 2017) has athletic and projectable build at 6-foot-4 205-pounds and has committed to Murray State.

Behind the plate, Schad has pop-times between 2.00 and 2.30 with a clean exchange and release. He trows 73 mph from the crouch. At the plate, Schad starts with an open stance, and has smooth pre-swing rhythm.  He lands square and has a gap-to-gap approach, with a level bat path to extension.  His aggressive swing produces an 88 mph exit velo.

On the infield, Schad moves to the ball with a purpose.  He has an over-the-top release, and throws with momentum towards his target.  He has a 77 pm positional velo making accurate throws.

Schad is preparing to get Westminster back into the state championship.  Last season he posted a .448 batting average with three home runs and 13 RBI in 34 plate appearances.  Here is a closer look on how Schad chose Murray State.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Schad: Honestly, I did not think I was going to commit before next summer. The Process was fun, but also nerve wracking trying to find a good fit at a college I liked.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Schad: Yes. It was very important that my parents and family members could see me play without having to travel too far.

PBR:  Where did Murray State first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Schad: My team and I went down to Murray to Play a showcase tournament on Murray's field. After the weekend was over, Coach Moulder Spoke to me and my Parents. After that, He just stayed in contact.

PBR:  Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?

Schad: Joe Boyle. I had the opportunity to face him at Harris Stowe late this summer. Had a dominant fastball with nice Off-speed.  

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Schad: work hard in the off-season, give 100% in every pitch, you never know who's watching

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Schad: Gain healthy weight, Keep my swing fluent, and arm healthy.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Schad: Hitting the game tying HR against Fort zumwalt west in the last Inning.

PBR: What do you like most about Murray State and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Schad: Really liked the town of Murray. The Distance was close enough to home so my parents and family could come watch me play. Lastly i think the Coaching Staff is Going to produce a well-rounded winning team over seasons to come

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Was there a particular game or event that you feel turned the corner for you?

Schad: I think the middle to the end of my 16u summer was the turning point where i began to receive more college contact.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be? What are your expectations and goals?

Schad: I feel really good about our team this year. We have almost all of our starters back. I would say our goals is basically continue on the same path as last year, but continue to win in the postseason.

PBR: Where do you play in the summer? And what has been your most memorable experience with them?

Schad: I play for the St. Louis Gamers. I would say my most memorable experience was being able to compete In East Cobb at Perfect Game tournaments. After spending so much time with such great guys in practice, dugouts, hotels, Etc, and taking it out on the field and winning is just a feeling that's hard to mimic.
