Player Spotlight: 3B/RHP Brett Denney (Logan-Rogersville, 2016)

Brett Denney (Logan-Rogersville, 2016) is a strong 6-foot-1 197-pound right-handed hitting third baseman and right-handed pitcher. 

Denney has an advanced approach at the plate, using a balanced set up, short stride, and loose hands to produce a level swing through the zone.  He has a gap-to-gap approach with power to the pull gap.  He has an 87 mph exit velo and runs a 7.29 60, getting down the line in 4.47-seconds. 

On the infield, he has athletic actions and made all the plays.  He has quick feet, clean exchange and a quick release.  He has a positional velo of  76 mph. 

On the mound, Denney posted one of the top velos of the day at 83 mph.  He has a high-three quarters release, arm works, smooth rhythm in his delivery and stays in line as he gets down mound.  Fastball works at 81-83 mph, slight run, 11-to-5 breaking ball at 71-73 mph and change-up at 71-76 mph.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Denney: A school with a good pre-med program or psychology program.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will play a key role for Logan-Rogersville in 2016.

Denney: BA 3.41, 31 hits, 1 hr, 18 rbi. 31.1 innings pitched, 13 games pitched, 4 games started, 2 wins 1 loss, 5 saves, 33.strike outs, ERA 4.46. As a team we played decent, we won our I believe third district championship in a row, but failed to make it back to state again as we lost in sectionals. Jordan Fitzpatrick (jr), Jacob Zahn (sr), and myself.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Denny: My goals for my senior season are to first of all establish myself as a good leader and figure for my team to look up to. Next would be to help my team the best I can, as a team win another district title and make another run at state.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Denney: I played for the White Brothers 18u team over the summer, and I played fall ball with the Saba organization both varsity and elite teams.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Denney: This year is my first year not participating in another sport, I played football, basketball, and baseball freshman year, football and baseball sophomore year, and then football, baseball, and I wrestled my junior year.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Denney: My highest ACT at this time is a 23 and my gpa is a 3.4
