MOKAN Summer Trials: Corner Infield Analysis

On July 5, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Summer Trials at LaRoche Field in Fort Scott, Kansas.  Over 60 players on the 2021-2018 classes attended. 

We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the corner infielders today.  Player profiles have been updated with video, running times, throwing velocities and profile picture.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Corner Infielders

Logan Armstrong 3B / Nevada , MO / 2018

Armstrong is a 5-foot-9 125-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.52 50 and has a 77 mph exit velo. Alexander has an positional velocity of 77 mph, long an lean frame, athletic actions, soft hands, quick transfer with quick release, loose high three quarters arm slot, arm works, accurate throws, mostly with carry. 

Luke Bradbury RHP / Fort Scott, KS / 2021

Bradbury is a 5-foot-10 140-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.97 60 and has a 69 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, stays slightly open during stride, pre-swing rhythm in hands, loads hands, middle of the field contact, quick bat speed, body stays under control. On the infield, 69 mph positional velocity, fields the ball in athletic position, high three quarters release, clean transfer with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Max Breite 1B / New Covenant Academy, MO / 2019

Breite is a 6-foot-1 157-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.51 60 and has a 70 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide base, pre-swing rhythm in hands, minimal load, quick and short reverse toe tap, mostly line drives to the middle of the field in batting practice, stays balanced.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, fields ball in position ready to throw.

Matt Campbell 1B / Fort Scott, KS / 2019

Campbell has a projectable frame at 6-foot-4 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.02 60 and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable, balanced set up, no wasted movement in load, hands create quick bat speed and bat head whip, ball jumps off bat, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, short high three quarters release, moves feet to ball well, clean transfer and momentum to throw, soft hands.

Chandler Defebaugh RHP / Fort Scott , KS / 2018

Defebaugh is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.77 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, leg kick, slightly closed and thin stride, short to contact, minimal load, pull side contact during hitting evals, quick bat speed.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields ball in athletic postion, clean transfer, smooth footwork to the ball, accurate thrower, most with carry.

Dalton Engle RHP / Riley County, KS / 2018

Engle is a strong 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.32 60 and has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts open, strides in line, body stays under control, hard contact to the pull side in hitting evaluations, repeats swing.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, over the top release, athletic footwork to the ball, fields the ball out front, clean transfer, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws, flashing carry.

Jackson Nicklaus C / Andover, KS / 2021

Nickluas is a 5-foot-7 140-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.72 60 and has a 67 mph exit velocity. At the plate, smooth rhythm, accelerated and loose hands, balanced set up, controlled in line stride, swing produced hard consistent contact to middle and pull side, level path through the zone, stayed on ball after contact. On the infield, quick over the top arm action, short release, plays through the ball with athletic footwork, quick transfer, soft hands, athletic actions, 73 mph positional velo.

Lucas Pringle C / Mill Valley , KS / 2021

Pringle is a 5-foot-8 145-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.78 60 and has an exit velocity of 68 mph.  At the plate, balanced set up, some hand load, compact and repeatable, level path through the zone, swing produced middle to pull side line drives, body stays under control. On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, over the top release, fields ball in athletic position, momentum after the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Wade Reynolds 3B / Goddard Eisenhower, KS / 2019

Reynolds is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas 2019 class.  He ran a 7.28 60 and has an 88 mph exit velo. At the plate,  balanced set up, smooth rhythm to load, minimal hand movement to load, in line stride, aggressive bat speed, feel for the barrel, consistent hard contact, middle to pull gap power, loose hands, repeats.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork on time with exchange and hands, momentum through the catch and in line to throw, athletic actions, throws have carry, mostly accurate, arm works.

Andrew Schmidtlein 3B / Hayden , KS / 2020

Schmidtlein is a strong bodied and durable 5-foot-9 210-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.76 60 and has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, slightly closed stride, attacks ball, aggressive bat speed, body stays under control, loose hands attacking the ball, consistent hard contact gap to gap, pull side power, strong lower half.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, quick catch and throw, feet move to ball well, over the top release, loose arm action, athletic.

Ethan Straight 1B / Staley , MO / 2021

Straight is a long and lean 6-foot 155-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.71 60 and has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide stance, short stride, smooth load, no wasted movement, slight lift in bat path, middle to pull side contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velocity, loose three quarters release, field ball out front, moves with athletic feet, quick catch and throw, footwork create momentum to throw, clean exchange.

Brady Strickert LHP / Blue Springs South, MO / 2019

Strickert is a 5-foot-11 190-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and has an 86 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, flashes pull power, some lift to swing, free and quick hands, fast bat speed, smooth load, short and controlled stride, middle to pull side line drives during batting practice. On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, three quarters release, quick feet to the ball, plays through the catch, quick catch and throw, loose arm action, athletic footwork.

Carson Zenger 3B / Rock Creek, KS / 2018

Zenger is a strong and athletic 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.29 60 and has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, tall and open stance, smooth and controlled load, no wasted movement, loose hands, aggressive bat speed, balanced throughout swing, level path though the zone, solid consistent line drives gap-to-gap mostly to pull side gap, repeats swing.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, athletic actions, high three quarters release, quick feet to the ball creating momentum to throw, feet and hands on time with transfer, plays through he ball, quick release.
