MOKAN Preseason All-State Analysis: Middle INFs

The MOKAN Preseason All-State Showcase took place on Feb. 14th at the state of the art MacNSeitz indoor facility in Kansas City, MO. A full event of 120 players including many of the top players from each class (especially the underclassmen) showed out with some eye popping numbers. Today, we continue our in-depth analysis of each player at the event with an in-depth look at the middle infielders from the event.
Jack Ardito SS / RHP / Ray-Pec, MO / 2022Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 6-foot-1, 175 pound, lean and athletic frame. Hit: RHH. Very simple set up and load. Upright stance with very little movement. Has a high back elbow at hand set and has simple stride back to neutral. Level bat path and uses the whole field well. Consistently found the barrel in the BP session. Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-77 mph. ¾ arm slot with short arm action that works across the body. Defense: In the infield showed developing rhythm and routes to the ball. Can cover some ground with his athleticism. Fielding position can be a little stiff and glove action is developing. Run: 4.09 runner from home to first. Delivery: Predominantly works from the stretch position. Hand break is high and early in the balance point. Works down the mound directly towards home plate and rotates hard off the plant leg. Arm Action: Works directly over the top with a shorter arm action on the backside. FB: 82-83 mph, fairly straight action that comes out of the hand cleanly. CB: 62-64 mph, lands it in the strike zone with developing spin. SL: 71 mph, shorter cutting action with 10/4 shape. CH: 73 mph, short fading action with good command. |
Jackson Blaesing SS / 2B / St. James, KS / 2023Positional Profile: SS Body: 5-foot-10, 155-pound lean and athletic frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate used both a two-tap and traditional stride. Hand set is low and lays the bat horizontally flat. Gets into the lower half with a big load. Level bat path and does a good job of using the whole field. Hand strength and bat speed are both developing tools. Power: 74 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. High ¾ arm slot with whippy/quick arm action. Defense: In the infield showed good active feet and good routes to the ball. Shows enough athleticism to get to most balls while maintaining good rhythm. Exchanges are clean and quick. Shows a feel for some glove action and fielding the ball out in front. Run: 4.56 runner from home to first. |
Christian Bobzin RHP / SS / St. Paul Lutheran, Concordia MO, MO / 2024Positional Profile: RHP/SS Body: 6-foot-3, 175 pound lean and athletic frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate shows a wide stance and rocker load into the lower half. Slight arm bar set up with the hands. Pushes hands back deep and low during rhythmic leg kick. Has above average bat speed for his class and hands work quickly through the zone. Balance throughout the swing is still developing but will only improve with added strength in the future. Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-81 mph. ¾ arm slot with a shorter arm action on the backside. Ball comes out of the hand cleanly. Defense: In the infield shows clean and quick exchanges. Works shorter/choppy steps on approach to the ball with a direct route. Plays the ball a little upright and glove action with softer hands are developing. Run: 4.28 runner from home to first. Delivery: Smooth/quick tempo delivery. Gets a lot of momentum going down the mound and lands directionally towards target. Good balance on top of the rubber and hand break is consistent on all four pitches. Ball is explosive out of the hand and projects to throw much harder in the future with added strength. Arm Action: RH. ¾ arm action with long/smooth release and good extension. FB: 84-86 mph, has some arm side run and well-above average spin rate with an average of around 2500 rpm. CB: 69 mph, sweeping 11/5 action good hand speed. SL: 68-72 mph, tight cutting action with 9/3 shape. CH: 68-70 mph, slows arm down slightly but pitch has good fade and lands it for strikes. |
Brecken Bowers 2B / C / Liberty North, MO / 2022Positional Profile: 2B Body: 5-foot-9, 135 pound lean frame with ability to add more strength and size. Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance with a floating leg lift stride. Very controlled set up with the hands and very smooth rhythm. Bat angle is vertical to start and flattens out through the path. Works hand hard to work inside the ball and uses the whole field. Power: 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-71 mph. High ¾ arm action with a long release with extension. Defense: In the infield showed soft hands and good glove action. Works short/shifty feet side-to-side and likes to sit back on the ball more. Does a good job of controlling the body. Run: 4.70 runner from home to first. |
Cy Darnell SS / 2B / Webb City, MO / 2023Positional Profile: SS Body: 5-foot-10, 150-pound developing frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate shows a slightly open and crouched stance. Hands get set quietly into position with a more vertical bat angle. Long stride and gets lower into the lower half. Bat speed and hand strength are both developing tools. Power: 74 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-75 mph. High ¾ arm slot with long release on the back side. Defense: In the infield likes to let the ball come to him with shorter choppy feet. Fields the ball out in front and glove action is developing. Run: 4.29 runner from home to first. |
Will Dent SS / RHP / Blue Valley North, KS / 2024Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 5-foot-10, 135-pound developing frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate gets into a slightly crouched athletic stance with even balance. Hand are set at shoulder-height and quietly get separation from the lower half. Works the bat flat through the zone and likes to work the hands to the inside part of the ball. Line drive approach and uses the whole field well. Bat speed and hand strength are both in development. Power: 67 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-73 mph. High ¾ arm slot with clean arm action. Defense: In the infield likes to the let the ball come to him with short/choppy feet. Fields the ball a little upright and glove action and exchanges are developing tools. Run: 4.61 runner from home to first. Delivery: Works exclusively out of the stretch and loads up directly over back foot on high balance point. Strides directly towards the plate and finishes off to the first base side. Gets good tilting action with sloping shoulders. Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot and brings the ball back behind the body on hand break. FB: 75-76 mph, gets good sinking action with a lower spin rate. CB: 68-69 mph, early break with 11/5 shape. CH: 66-67 mph, flat action with slight downward action. |
Drew Dickerson SS / C / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2024Positional Profile: SS Body: 6-foot-4, 183-pound long and athletic frame. Easy projection for more strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a wide base and athletic posture. Hands set at shoulder height with a high back elbow. Has very quick hand through the zone. Long lever swing and gets good extension. Simple stride with foot getting down very early. Does a good job of using the whole field. Projects to hit for power with added strength. Good feel for barrel in the zone. Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. ¾ arm slot with good short arm action and good hand speed. Defense: In the infield showcases smooth rhythm and feet when attacking the ball. Shows good glove action and soft hands. Plays underneath the ball well even for his tall frame. Works well laterally to both glove hand and backhand sides. Good feel for body control throughout the fielding process. Very projectable. Run: 4.37 runner from home to first. |
Ryan Dierks RHP / 3B / Rockhurst, MO / 2022Positional Profile: RHP/SS Body: 6-foot, 194-pound well-built and mature frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with an athletic stance and hands set at shoulder height. Rocker type load with a simple stride back to neutral. Short swing with hands working quickly through the zone. Level bat path with line drive approach. Used the whole field well. Power: 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-75 mph. Low ¾ arm slot with stiff arm action working across the body. Defense: In the infield likes to sit back on the ball and uses short/choppy feet to get around it with rhythm headed towards first. Fields the ball out in front of the body with a feel for glove action. Quickness of exchanges are still developing. Run: 4.13 runner from home to first. Delivery: Works exclusively out of the stretch. Slow and deliberate leg lift to balance point. Hand break is out away from chest and drives the lower half down the mound with good direction. Maintains good balance throughout the delivery. Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with pushing release. FB: 76-79 mph, Heavy arm side run and sink. CB: 66 mph, short break with 11/5 action. SL: 67 mph, back up action with developing spin. CH: 63-67 mph, lots of horizontal movement to the arm side with good command. |
Brice Eiserer SS / RHP / Carrollton, MO / 2022Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 6-foot, 170-pound athletic and developing frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a sightly open and upright stance. Uses a mid-height leg kick and raises body up when loading into the lower half. Flat bat to start and works a level bat path through the zone. Quick twitch type swing. Tends to get a little stiff at times and hand strength is still a developing tool. Power: 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-76 mph. ¾ arm slot with short arm action with arm working across the body. Defense: In the infield showed active feet and rhythm around the ball. Showed good range to both the backhand and forehand side. Clean exchanges. Feel for glove action is developing. Run: 4.72 runner from home to first. Delivery: Works from a controlled tempo wind-up with an up-down-and-out leg kick before striding straight down the mound finishing upright and slightly to the first base side. Arm Action: Quick and linear in the back before getting up quickly and coming through a ¾ slot. FB: Shows some downhill angel with some sink at 76-77 mph SL: Traditional 10/4 slider shape flashing some late bite at 66-6767 mph. CB: Short 11/5 rolling action with some depth at 65-66. CH: Shows fade and slight sink, thrown with full arm speed at 70-72 mph. |
Brady Friend SS / OF / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2021Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 5-foot-11, 160-pound lean and athletic frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate shows a slightly open stance with an upright posture in the upper body. Hands are set slightly above shoulder height and uses a gliding stride into the front foot. Very rotational swing that sits and rotates off the back leg. Level bat path. Hands work quickly through the zone. Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RHH. INF-73 mph. High ¾ arm slot with loose arm action Defense: In the infidel shows active feet and clean exchanges. Likes to let the ball come to him and fields it out in front of the body. Showed the ability to change arm slots on different plays effectively. Shows a developing feel for glove action and soft hands. Run: 4.71 runner from home to first. Delivery: Works exclusively out of the stretch. Smooth and deliberate rhythm and repeats it well. Gets to good balance point before gliding down the mound. Strides directly down the mound towards the catcher with good balance throughout the delivery. Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with very smooth arm action. FB: 79-81 mph, slight arm side run with good extension and riding life at the top of the zone. CB: 70 mph, 11/5 shape with good downward action. CH: 75-76 mph, flat depth with heavy arm side fade and good hand speed. |
Gehrig Goldbeck 2B / SS / Tonganoxie, KS / 2022Positional Profile: 2B Body: 6-foot, 155-pound lean and developing frame. Hit: LHH. At the plate gets into an athletic/crouched stance with bouncing hands rhythm at shoulder height. Gets a good load into the lower half and uses a simple stride with foot getting down early. Great body tilt to help with matching plane and hit a ton of line drives. Works hands inside the ball well and drives balls back up the middle consistently. Hand strength and overall bat speed are developing tools. Power: 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-82 mph. High ¾ arm slot with clean arm action and good hand speed. Defense: n the infield likes to create angles towards first early with the feet and shoulders and lets the ball come to him. Shows a feel for glove action and gets into a good fielding position. Exchanges are quick and clean. Run: 4.19 runner from home to first. |
Tyson Grammer SS / 3B / Lawrence , KS / 2024Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Body: 5-foot-11, 220-pound stocky frame. Hit: LHH. At the plate shows an upright stance with hands set at shoulder height. Slow loads the hands and lower half and gets good separation. Works linearly through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel in the zone. Works a slight uphill bat path with good overall bat speed and quick hands through the zone. Shows current strength at contact and projects to hit for power with more development and experience. Power: 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-73 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short arm action and whippy release. Defense: In the infield uses shorts and choppy steps when attacking the ball. Showing a feel for some rhythm and working around the ball. Exchanges out of the glove are clean. Range and lateral movement will increase with added flexibility in the future. Run: 4.73 runner from home to first. Delivery: Works exclusively out of the stretch. Smooth leg lift to balance point with a faster tempo down the mound after hand break. Gets good leg drive and push off the back leg. Strides straight down the mound and finishes with good balance. Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with short/smooth arm action. FB: 72-75 mph, heavy sinking action with a lower spin rate to increase fade. CB: 61 mph, 12/6 shape with good feel for spin and command. |
Yale Griffiths RHP / SS / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2024Positional Profile: RHP/SS Body: 6-foot-2, 182-pound impressive/athletic frame with potential for more size and strength. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and athletic posture. Small leg lift stride with hands set right at shoulder height. Whipping bat action through the zone and likes to work the hands to the inside of the ball. Line drive approach with developing bat speed and hand strength. Power: 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-75 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short arm action on the back and at release. Defense: In the infield shows a feel for glove action and good back hand technique. Developing rhythm and actions around the ball. Throws were accurate across with good trajectory. Run: 4.51 runner from home to first. Delivery: Very rhythmic delivery that he repeats well. Lifts to a high balance point and turns the shoulders and hips closed. Breaks hands high on the chest and works the glove side straight across. Out of the stretch stays more neutral with balance point and shoulder turn. Lands down the mound directly towards the plate with good balance. Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with a longer arm action on fastballs and shorter arm action on off speed. FB: 75-77 mph, heavy arm side run with a ton of riding life at the top the zone. CB: 56-59 mph, big-loopy 11/5 shape with developing spin. CH: 64-65 mph, very low spin rate with effective downward action. |

Simple stride onto the toe and weight transfer is very linear. Bat speed and hand strength at both still developing. Power: 70 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-69 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short-whippy arm action. Defense: In the infield shows a feel for rhythm and attacks the ball well. Moves laterally well to both sides. Clean exchanges. Grant Hollister 2B / 3B / Blue Springs South, MO / 2024Positional Profile: 2B Body: 5-foot-9, 165-pound athletic and developing frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with an athletic stance and posture. Starts with hands set slightly above shoulder height and high back elbow. Utilizes a high leg kick and gather at the top while coiling the upper half. Gets big load into lower half and lands balanced with good control. Showcases very good bat speed and is showing good strength at contact. Gets most out of body with swing and is very aggressive with the bat path. Projects to have high hit tools and potential power. Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-85 mph. High ¾ arm slot with clean arm action. Defense: In the infield shows good rhythm and body control. Soft hands and good glove action. Brody Hufft SS / 2B / Park Hill South, MO / 2023Positional Profile: SS Body: 6-foot, 170-pound lean and athletic frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and athletic posture. Low hand set below the shoulder and uses a leg lift stride with good rhythm. Slow load into lower half and works lower half linearly through the swing. Level bat path and line drive approach. Bat speed and hand strength are both developing tools. Cooper Kelly SS / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2022Positional Profile: SS Body: 6-foot-1, 185-pound well-built and athletic frame. Hit: SWITCH. At the plate starts with an athletic posture from both sides of the plate and utilizes a short two tap stride with good rhythm. Likes to play the ball deeper in the zone and has a short bat path with very quick hands. Gets good extension through the ball and is showing some present strength at contact. Explosive bat speed from both sides of the plate. Level bat path and does a good job of matching plane. Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-86 mph. High ¾ arm slot with a very quick hand and loose arm action. Defense: In the infield maintains good athletic position throughout the fielding process. Very clean feet and routes to the ball. Exchanges are clean and quick. Showcases good lateral movement and ability to cover ground. Good feel for the control of the body and also has very soft hands. Projects to stay in the middle of the diamond at the next level. Very good overall defender. Run: 4.08 runner from home to first. |
Michael Leardi SS / 3B / Rockhurst, MO / 2024Positional Profile: SS Body: 5-foot-10, 165-pound lean frame with room for added size and strength. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a slightly upright posture and sinks into a good athletic position in the lower half. Hands are set at shoulder height with a high back elbow. Simple stride to balanced position and even weight distribution. Well-above average bat speed and strong rotational acceleration. Uphill bat path and tries to get the ball up in the air. Power: 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-73 mph. ¾ arm slot with short arm action. Defense: In the infield shows shows attacking rhythm with short/choppy steps. Plays below the ball well. Sure-handed and starting to show a feel for glove action. Throws had good trajectory across. Run: 4.94 runner from home to first. |
Russell Lucas III SS / 3B / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2022Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 5-foot-9, 185 pound stocky frame with thick lower half. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with an upright stance and rhythmic set up with the hands at shoulder height. Short two tap stride with narrow stride length. Slightly arm barred and pull side approach. Sits and rotates hard off the back leg. Likes the ball out in front of the plate and works hands around the outside of the ball. Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-74 mph. High ¾ arm slot with good hand speed and long release. Defense: In the infield shows short/choppy steps to work around the ball. Slow and controlled actions. Sure-handed with the glove and glove action is still developing. Throws had good trajectory across. Run: 4.95 runner from home to first. Delivery: Smooth tempo delivery. Coils hips and shoulders at balance point. Hand break is low on the chest and repeats it well. Rotates off the back leg and lands directionally down the mound towards the plate. Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with loose arm action. FB: 79-81 mph, good arm side run and life at the top of the zone. SL: 68-71 mph, short 9/3 shape with cutting action. Brayden Metcalf SS / RHP / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2024Positional Profile: SS/LHP Body: 5-foot-11, 150 pound developing frame with room to add strength. Hit: LHH. At the plate starts with a very upright stance and feet close together. Sinks into lower half and drives the lower half forward with a standard stride. Flat bat angle. Level bat path and finishes with a lower release. Line drive approach. Bat speed and hand strength are still developing. Power: 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-72 mph. ¾ arm slot with arm working across the chest at release. Defense: In the infield shows active feet with routes working around the ball. Clean exchanges and gets ball out of the glove quick. Shows a developing feel for glove action. Run: 4.33 runner from home to first. Delivery: From the left-side. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Quick tempoed rhythm with high balance point and slight coil. Works directionally down the mound with good balance. Arm Action: LH. High ¾ arm slot with cross body action on the back side. FB: 72-74 mph, straight action with some life at the top of the zone. CB: 55-59 mph, big-loopy action with 1/7 shape. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance with a crouched lower half and upright upper body posture. Hands set at shoulder height with a horizontal bat angle. Simple stride with even weight distribution. Good rotational acceleration and good overall bat speed. Quick twitch swing with some strength at contact. Aidan Polter SS / 2B / Seaman , KS / 2022Positional Profile: SS Body: 5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and upright posture. Hands set a shoulder height and utilizes a short stride into a narrow base. Turns hips and shoulders in on weight shift. Rotational upper body with a stiffer bat path. Works a lower trajectory and does a good job of staying gap to gap. Power: 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. ¾ arm slot with hand working across the body. Defense: In the infield shows a developing feel for glove action and fielding the ball out in front. Prefers to let the ball come to him. Luke Presko 2B / RHP / St Pius X, MO / 2023Positional Profile: 2B Body: 5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a very wide and crouched stance. Hands are set slightly above shoulder height with a very horizontal bat angle. Very small leg lift with plant foot gaining no ground. Hands work short to the ball and shows some strength at contact. Works the middle of the field well. Power: 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. Vance Pringle SS / OF / Olathe South , KS / 2024Positional Profile: SS Body: 5-foot-6, 125-pound developing frame with room to add strength and size in the future. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with an open stance and upright frame. Hands set at shoulder height with good rhythm back into the set position. Uses a small leg kick stride that is narrow and stays open.
