Future Games Follow Up With Michigan Commit Grant Hollister
October 31, 2022
From July 27th to July 30th, the Prep Baseball Report staff hosted the PBR Future Games at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia.
This one-of-a-kind event featured the best uncommitted Class of 2024 prospects and select 2025 prospects from our 40-plus state coverage area and Canada. In years past, more than 330 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance.
Team Missouri had one of the event's top showings, posting a 2-1 record throughout the week while playing against consistent high-end uncommitted talent across the country. The accolades for Team Missouri have continued rolling in after the event, with a member of the squad capturing Future Games MVP honors and several players already committing, too.
Today, our staff sat down with INF Grant Hollister (Blue Springs South, 2024; Michigan), a top prospect in Missouri's junior class. Hollister made the trip down to LakePoint this past summer and was amongst the top performers for Team Missouri there, stringing together a collective of hits, including a home run. Hollister generated plenty of buzz after the event, recently committing to the University of Michigan.
We sat down with Hollister and spoke about several things related to the Future Games, including his experience at the event, among other topics. You'll find that conversation below.
OUR Q&A
PBR: What did you think about the Future Games coming into the event? Had you heard anything about the event prior to attending?
Hollister: I had always heard a ton of great things about the Future Games, tons of coaches and great athletes at one big event. It was actually my fourth time going to LakePoint for the Future Games. I had been invited for both of the underclass years and both of the upperclass years.
P: Describe your experience at LakePoint for the Future Games. What was it like to compete against top-end talent from across the country in an atmosphere that featured so many college coaches?
H: It was unreal. It’s a whole different vibe then your normal tournament. Every time you set foot on the field there’s 20+ college coaches watching you and every time you step into the box you’re facing legit Division I arms.
P: What was it like to represent the state of Missouri at this event?
H: It was a great honor. It’s always amazing to go out and represent the state of Missouri in anything but to get to do it on a national scene like I was privileged to do at LakePoint just means more.
P: What was the outreach of schools like for you after you attended the Future Games?
H: It began to pickup very fast. Within a few days following the event I had a ton of schools reaching out and showing a lot of interest in me.
P: Do you have a memorable moment from the Future Games? Is there a certain game, play, performance milestone, etc. that you specifically remember?
H: Definitely game two against Team Louisiana. I couldn’t have asked for a better game to have. It started with my first at bat when I fell behind 0-2 and was able to work the count back to 3-2, got a pitch a I liked and hit an opposite field homerun. I followed that with a 12-pitch at-bat for a walk and a single in my final at bat.
P: Which players on Team Missouri, in particular, stood out to you throughout the event?
H: The whole team was extremely talented, but the ones that impressed me the most were C Xander Schmitt (Lafayette, 2024; Kansas), RHP John-Paul Sauer (Jackson, 2024; Tulane), LHP Brady Kehlenbrink (Parkway South, 2024; Louisiana State), and 1B Jackson Glueck (Staley, 2024).
P: Congratulations on your commitment! What led you to committing to your eventual school and is there anything about the coaching staff, program, etc in particular.
H: Thank you! What really led to my commitment was the vibe I got from the coaches on my visit. Those are the kind of people I want to spend my college years around, and the development piece that they bring along with them being great people as well is unreal. On top of that Michigan is one of the most historic programs of all time - the facilities, the academics and the winning culture. Overall it just felt like a home away from home and there’s nothing more I could’ve asked for in a school.
