Evaluation: 3/20/16- 5-foot-10, 168-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.15 runner. Crouched stance, wide base, inverted swing plane, lift at contact, ability to drive oppo, 77 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, second base actions, works ground up, long release on throws, good carry and accuracy to bag, 78 mph arm strength.
PBR: What schools have you been hearing from?
KOCH: Holy Cross, Minnesota, a couple Ivy League schools, Union, Amherst, Bethel, St. Thomas, St. Mary’s, Kalamazoo, Grinnell, St. Mary’s and Macalester.
PBR: Have you taken any visits? Do you have any scheduled in the near future?
KOCH: I haven’t made any official visits. Have visited Holy Cross, Minnesota… planning on others later in the fall.
PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
KOCH: High academics with good economics and finance programs, and a competitive baseball program.
PBR: What were some of the highlights of your junior year?
KOCH: We began the season 10-0. I started at 2B and batted lead-off all year. I hit the ball well, had a good OBP and I think I played consistent, reliable defense. I played with some great teammates and was recognized with All-conference honorable mention. We had a great Legion season and made the final four of the State Tournament.
PBR: What are your goals for this year?
KOCH: Goals are to win conference and go to State. I’ve got some personal milestones I’m aiming for, but overall I’m going to continue working to get stronger, faster and better in all aspects of the game, and to be a great teammate. Working to find the right fit for college – a great school where I can contribute and continue to develop on and off the field.
PBR: Do you play any other sports?
KOCH: Yes, I'm the captain of the CDH Soccer Team.
PBR: GPA/ACT/SAT?
KOCH: I have a 4.02 GPA with an 30 ACT.
