Senior Games Mississippi Valley: Catcher Analysis

Today we roll out our analysis on the catchers, here’s our reports on all six catcher in attendance. Logan Rezash again stood out with his defensive capabilities and recently committed to McHenry County College.

Catcher Reports (Listed Alphabetically)

Brady Cunningham, C, Whitnall, 2017
5-foot-10, 155-pound catcher. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, maintained good balance. Showed well in BP with the bat, path stays on top of the baseball, backspun line drives to the middle of the field, showed bat speed and ability to spray the baseball. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively posted pop times at 2.25-2.30, showed some accuracy while arm played over the top at 68 mph.

Austin Donahue, C, Unity, 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pound catcher, lean frame. Defensively arm played at 73 mph out of the crouch, short high ¾ slot. Pop times posted at 2.18-2.25. 7.51 runner in the 60, 4.7 down the line. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance from a taller setup, slight leg lift trigger. Hits off back side, path has some length and lift. 73 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Owen Gilbertson, C, Holmen, 2017
5-foot-11, 150-pound catcher. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, arm bar load. Swings with firm wrists, 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively pop times ranged from 2.28-2.44, quick bounce out of the crouch, occasionally erratic, longer footwork. Over the top slot, arm played at 71 mph. 7.97 runner in the 60 yard dash.

Spencer Graves, C, Academy of Holy Angels (MN), 2017
6-foot, 180-pound catcher. Right-handed hitter, leg kick stride, average balance. Path worked uphill, big loading action, hits off front foot, occasional hard contact in BP, opposite field contact in game. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays short and over the top, 72 mph out of the crouch. 2.20-2.36 pop times. 7.84 laser timed 60 yard dash.

Ty Okada, C, East Ridge (MN), 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound catcher, lean build. Right-handed hitter, open setup, short stride back to square, average balance. Loose hands, path worked on level plane, showed bat speed. Went 1-for-2 with a single in game play. 78 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively arm played over the top, late to release point, average arm strength throws carried high to target. Athletic to block, showed bounce out of the crouch, 2.11-2.25 pop times. 7.21 runner in the 60.

Logan Rezash, C, Greendale, 2017
6-foot-2, 170-pound catcher, strong durable build. Defensive minded prospect, active behind the plate, vocal and always on the move, showed game controlling capabilities. Strong catch and throw skills, arm carried well, 81 mph out of the crouch, 2.01-2.07 pop times. Quick clean release showed athleticism out of the chute. Offensively hits from a slightly wider setup, two-piece approach, hands get static at times. 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.53 runner in the 60.
