Updated 2021 Overall Rankings Release
July 25, 2019
The 2021 class took a hit early on in the summer when two of the top five players in the Overall Rankings reclassified as 2020 prospects. CIF Blaze Jordan (Desoto Central HS, MS), a Mississippi State recruit, and RHP Alejandro Rosario (Miami Christian HS, FL), a Miami recruit, made the leap, and will be featured prominently in the next update for the 2020 class. Though the loss of the high-profile, power bat and power arm is a hit to the class as a whole, the continued rise and emergence of prospects throughout continues to excite the baseball community.
Continuing to lead the way as one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Michigan in quite some time is the athletic, do-it-all SS/RHP Luke Leto (Portage Central HS, MI). The Louisiana State recruit has continued to star on the national scene with premium speed, arm strength, and feel for hit. The powerful left-handed hitter leads the way for a strong crop in-state that includes three players in the top 40—SS Alex Mooney (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep, MI, and OF Saborn Campbell (Detroit Country Day School, MI).
Luke Leto (Spring 2019)
Strong-armed RHP Christian Little (Christian Brothers College HS, MO) makes the jump to No. 2 overall with a low-90s fastball and feel for both a mid-70s curveball and changeup. At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, he sports a physical, athletic frame, and continues to showcase a high ceiling with plenty of upside as future starter.
Christian Little (February 2019)
Whether on the mound or at the plate, No. 3 overall prospect, SS/RHP Brady House (Winder-Barrow HS, GA) excels with perhaps the most physical frame in the entire class. Built like an SEC linebacker at 6-foot-3, 217 pounds with wide, broad shoulders, the Tennessee recruit sports clean hands and a strong arm that should allow him to stick on the left side moving forward, especially given his powerful stroke from the right side. That same arm strength transitions well to the mound where his fastball has run up into the low 90s as he attacks hitters with a competitive edge.
Brady House (March 2019)
Rounding out the top five are a pair of Texan infielders. SS Jordan Lawlar (Dallas Jesuit, TX), a Vanderbilt recruit, certainly looks the part on the infield where he glides effortlessly from side to side with confident hands and above average arm strength. His polished approach at the plate and speed should play well at the top of the order moving forward. CIF Izaac Pacheco (Friendswood HS, TX), a switch-hitting Texas A&M recruit, has blitzed balls on the national circuit, and looks the part of an elite-hitting third baseman with big power projection.
Jordan Lawlar (June 2019)
A pair of position players come in at six and seven. OF Braylon Bishop (Texarkana HS, AR), an Arkansas recruit, combines power and speed with feel for the barrel from the left side to be featured as the top outfielder in the class. SS Marcelo Mayer (Eastlake HS, CA), a Southern California recruit, looks the part of the next great SoCal shortstop, and starred hitting in front of 2019 Minnesota Twins first-round pick, 3B Keoni Cavaco (Eastlake HS, CA), all spring.
Braylon Bishop (February 2019)
Marcelo Mayer (May 2019)
Rounding out the top 10 are a trio of pitchers. RHP Nick Bitsko (Central Bucks East HS, PA), a Virginia recruit, exhibits premium arm strength from the right side with an impressive, 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame, and has recently been up to 97 mph. LHP Hagen Smith (Bullard HS, TX), an Oklahoma State recruit, possesses a low-90s fastball and sharp slider to go along with a projectable, 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame and quick arm that will have scouts closely monitoring him moving forward. RHP Andy Painter (Calvary Christian HS, FL), a Florida recruit, is impressively polished for his grade. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound right-hander has been up to 94 mph this summer with command of the fastball to both sides of the plate along with advanced feel for a changeup and a curveball that he throws for strikes.
Hagen Smith (February 2019)
The overall depth of the class, and strength from coast to coast, can be seen in the 14 different states that are represented in the top 25. Exceptional athletes up the middle, and frontline starters are peppered throughout the list, and will more than likely make this class one to look forward to watching develop over the next couple of years.
