Donavan Canterberry SS / RHP / Wyandotte, MI / 2022WYANDOTTE - Two years ago Donavan Canterberry had his first college visit. “I was in eighth grade and took a visit to Michigan,” related the Wyandotte sophomore. “It was then that I thought I probably could do this. After that I got on Aaron Wilson’s team (Arsenal) and I got all the looks I needed.” One of those keeping a watch on the top-rated shortstop in Michigan’s 2022 class was Xavier. “They saw me early in the summer at Grand Park and then at the Future Games,” reflected Canterberry. “Aaron had me call them at the Future Games and then I went to a camp. I did well there and they offered. A few days later I took it.” The fourth-ranked sophomore in the state impressed Xavier at the PBR event in Georgia. “I was playing with older kids,” Canterberry noted. “Xavier said it was good to see me with older kids and to compete the way that I did. I stood out even though I was playing with mostly older kids.” Canterberry showed off a lot of qualities the Big East Conference program admires. “They liked my fielding, hitting and my arm,” Canterberry pointed out. “They liked that I was mature on the field and the way I carry myself.” Improvement has benefitted the 6-0 180-pounder. “I’ve really hit the weight room and that’s helped out a lot,” explained the 66th-rated 2022 high school shortstop in North America. “I’ve gotten a lot stronger. I’ve also improved my speed. I was 7.2 in the 60 in the summer and 6.8 a the Preseason All-State (earlier this month). “I’m also getting more mature. I feel the game started to slow down for me this summer.” |
