With the high school season done, summer season getting started, and Day 2 of the MLB draft, PBR Maryland has updated and expanded our state rankings. This first update of the class of 2016 rankings has expanded from 50 to now 70 players in the state. As usual we keep the coverage to players we have been able to see and will continue to expand this list over the course of the year with updates and expansions.

Not much change has happened thus far at the top of the charts for the class of 2016 with Matt Mervis at the No. 1 spot. The talented player from Georgetown Prep boasts a powerful frame, pop from the left side, and a 90 mph arm on the mound. Anthony Felitti is in at No. 2 after leading Gaithersburg to the 4A championship this spring. Felitti went 10-0 for the Trojans including getting the win in the state championship. Elliot Zoellner, Nick Pantos, and Tyler Blohm round out the Top five.

Pantos and Zoellner are two prospects to keep an eye on over the summer as both did not contribute many innings on the mound this past spring. Both arms have shown just under 90 mph on the bump and project well with their frames. 

The MIAA is well represented in the rankings with 23 players making the list of 70.  The IAC’s Georgetown Prep boast three players (Mervis, Brian Dempsey, Zach Seal) in the Top 15.  Here is a sneak peak at the Top Ten.
