With the summer season coming to an end and school starting in the not-to-distant future, PBR Maryland has updated the class of 2018 rankings. This update expands from the Top 10 to the Top 30 players after a busy summer in our relentless effort to find the baseball talent of the state and area.
No change at the top as teammates Austin Elliott (No. 1) and Zack Gelof (No.2) of Cape Henlopen HS both hold firm the top two spots in the rankings. Elliott, a talented right-handed pitcher/outfielder made a name for himself this summer after reportedly pitching in the upper 80’s and topping out at 90 mph on the mound. Elliott pitches with some effort and shows a lot of projectability with his athletic frame and arm action. Gelof (Virginia commit) is another talented right-handed pitcher/infielder for Cape Henlopen who reached the mid-to-upper 80’s over the course of the summer. Both star players were key figures for Cape in their state championship appearance this year in the Delaware state playoffs.
New to the rankings at No. 3 is Bryce Greenly (video below) of Milford HS. Greenly commited to UVA this summer and displays plenty of athleticism and raw ability. He had a great showing in July at the Eastern Shore Showcase, being one of the breakout performers from the event as an outfielder.
Stephen Pelli of St. Mary’s sits in at No. 4 in our rankings. The right-handed pitcher was also in the upper 80’s over the summer with the Evoshield canes and had a nice showing as one of the top 2018’s in February at PBR Maryland’s first event, the Maryland Preseason ID.
Overall, pitching made its presence known in the top 10 of the 2018 rankings with seven of the top ten players (Elliot, Gelof, Greenly, Pelli, Tristan McDonough, JP Murphy, Tyler Shockley) either being a pitcher only or a two-way talent.
