The Maryland Insider covers a wide variety of information on players in the state. We will cover events, players to watch, rankings, best in class, and many more topics that will cover the many levels of high school baseball.

The first event for PBR Maryland was a tremendous success.  Just under 60 talented players came to the Diamond Pros facility in Glen Arm, MD and overcame the weather to show off their ability.  Today we talk about the top performers from the 2018 class (In Alphabetical Order).

Austin Elliot, RHP/OF Cape Henlopen (DE)
On the mound Elliot showed a good frame and a good foundation to build upon.  He topped out at 84 with nice arm action and got better as he began to consistently repeat his delivery. Showed some gap to gap ability in his swing and a 7.39 60 time. 

Zack Gelof, SS/RHP Cape Henlopen (DE)
This athletic freshmen showed off in almost every way possible putting up solid numbers across the board.  Gelof ran 7.07 60, had an exit velocity of 81, and his infield velocity was 82.  On the mound there is a great foundation with his frame and athletic, quick arm.  He was an easy 82 with good sink in his bullpen with more in the tank.

Nick Hopkins, SS/MIF St. Mary’s
The switch hitting middle infielder showed some raw ability and athleticism.  Hopkins ran a 7.10 60 with exit velocities just under 80 on both sides of the plate.  There are still a few areas he needs to clean up, but the overall raw ability is there.

Kody Milton, 1B Severna Park
A strong frame at 6-foot-2 190-pounds, the young Milton showed good bat speed and pop with an exit velocity of 82. Offensively had good balance with a level swing and short to the ball.  Needs to improve his foot speed but a solid foundation for a young player.

Stephen Pelli, RHP/3B St. Mary’s
Pelli had a good workout at the ID and impressed the most on the mound.  The young RHP had good arm action topping out at 84 mph with feel for the CH.  His FB had late life to it with run and good command.  Had an average breaking ball and showed potential to develop the pitch.

Tyler Shockley, C/INF/RHP James M Bennett
Shockley was another dual player with an overall solid performance.  The biggest question for him might be where his future lies.  He was good behind the plate with a catcher velocity of 75 mph which translated to a pop time in the 2.1 – 2.2 range. His exit velocity was 83 with above average hands.  On the mound, Shockley topped out at 81 with good arm speed and potential for a power slider.
