Unsigned Senior Games: Quick Hits

Over 30 players from across the Old Line State, Delaware, and Virginia participated in this year's Unsigned Senior Games at McCurdy Field. Players were put through a pro-style workout and played a simulated game in front of our PBR Maryland scouting staff with Trackman and Blast also on hand to record data. Below are scout notes and video captured from the event on twenty top performers.
PITCHERS
Reed Adams RHP Dundalk 2021
Athletic, lean frame with some projection at 5’11’’, 187 pounds. Showed quick arm speed through release throwing with short arm action from a mid three-quarter slot. Showed confidence to attack hitters and loose, un-phased demeanor on the mound. Fastball sat 77-81 mph and touched 83 mph. Breaking ball showed both 11/5 and 12/6 shape at 66-69 mph.

Brian Ferreira RHP Huntingtown 2021
Athletic 5’10”, 190 pound frame. Competes with confidence on the mound and pounds the zone with three-pitches. One of the more polished arms at the event with a nice idea of how to work hitters. Throws with shorter arm action from a low three-quarters slot. Creates quick arm speed through release with a quick delivery to the plate. Fastball sat 82-83 mph and touched 85 mph with late arm-side run. Was forced to pitch a majority out of the stretch due to some errors in the field behind him. Breaking ball showed short, tight 11/5 and 12/6 shape at 70-72 mph and change-up had slight fade at 74-75 mph.

Kai Hardesty RHP Linganore 2021
Solid body type and 6’3’’, 245 pound frame. Throws downhill with a full arm circle from a high three-quarter, near over the top slot. Controlled wind-up and delivery. Worked both sides of the plate with a two-pitch mix. Fastball sat 78-81 mph, breaking ball was big with two shapes, 11/5 and 12/6 at 67-69 mph.

Strong, physical frame with a solid two pitch mix. Throws from a H 3/4 slot with a heavy FB w/ slight asr. Some command to both sides of the plate.

Ayden Shadle LHP Catoctin 2021
Projectable 6’3’’, 195 pound frame. Attacked both sides of the plate with the fastball and showed feel for the breaking ball as an out pitch. Controlled wind-up and delivery working downhill and over the front side. Clean hand separation and throws with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Fastball showed slight arm-side run at 76-79 mph and touched 80 mph. Breaking ball was 70-73 mph with more 8/2 sweeping shape across the zone and also mixed in a split-finger at 71-73 on occasion.

Wide, physical 6’3” 195 LB frame. Quick delivery and throws from a H 3/4 slot w/ easy effort. Consistent weak contact with feel for the zone.

Jack Surdez RHP Frederick 2021
Strong build and 6’1’’, 180 pound frame. Controlled wind-up and smooth downhill delivery. Creates quick arm speed through release. Long arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Gets down hard over the front side with a full finish. Fastball sat 79-82 and touched 83 mph with slight arm-side run at times. Breaking ball showed more gradual 11/5 shape at 69-71 mph and change-up had late fade at 73-74 mph. Another arm with some polish and upside.

Cade Williams RHP Nandua (VA) 2021
Athletic 5’11’’, 155 pound frame with room to add strength. Works quick and pounds the zone with confidence. Worked both sides of the plate and mixed it up well keeping hitters off balance at the plate. Gets to a tall balance point with uphill shoulder tilt and showed some arm speed through release. Throws with long, loose arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 71-81 mph and breaking ball was 68-69 mph with 11/5 shape. Not going to over-power many hitters but know how to pitch, throws strikes, and as previously mentioned; mixes pitches well.

Andrew Leginze OF/RHP La Plata 2021
Athletic, 5’9”, 140 pound frame. Solid all-around player. Pitches from the stretch with a quick kick-out stride and delivery to the plate. Throws with long, loose arm action from a mid to high three-quarter slot. Pounded the zone working ahead in the count with confidence. Used both sides of the plate and showed feel for the off-speed as out pitches. Fastball sat 77-79 mph, breaking ball was 65-67 mph with 11/5 shape, and change-up was 66-69 mph. Consistent middle of the field line drive approach from both sides of the plate. Stays within and showed nice feel for the barrel and some occasional pop recording a 90 mph exit velo per TrackMan.

Tyler Quade 3B/RHP Chopticon 2021
5'9", 170 pound frame with strength. Short, compact swing from the left side of the plate. Middle to pull-side line drive approach with some pop. Consistent approach with feel for the barrel. Recorded a 91 mph exit velo per TrackMan during BP. Solid defensively at the corner and also showed some two-way ability on the mound. Mixes deliveries to mess with hitters timing and also throws from multiple slots. Fastball sat 78-80 mph and touched 81 mph. Off-speed offerings included: breaking ball at 64-65 mph, change-up at 66-68 mph, and knuckleball at 65-66 mph.

Simon Abdullah OF/SS Hodgson Vo Tech (DE) 2021
Speedy, athletic, hard nosed player. Smooth, rhythmic type back load with quick hands and fast bat speed through contact. Really nice gap-to-gap line drive approach with a solid feel for the barrel. Consistent loud contact producing a 90 mph exit velo per TrackMan. Athletic, fundamental footwork in the outfield with a strong arm that showed carry. Also ran a 7.01 60 yard time.

Auber showcases a strong, athletic frame with a quick swing at the dish and a consistent, smooth back load. Gets the foot down early and attacks the ball with intent. Stays short to the ball with extension past contact. Showcases his athleticism in the outfield with a quick first step.

Matthew Best OF/2B Good Counsel 2021
Really impressed in all three phases. Strong, athletic, projectable 5'11'', 165 pound frame and really nice gap-to-gap line drive approach. Produces excellent lower half involvement with solid extension through contact. Present pop to the alleys with a 97 mph exit velocity per TrackMan. Can really run it down in the outfield showing off his 7.04 60 time and a strong arm (83 mph OF velo).

Strong, physical body type with a solid feel for the barrel. Barrels up the ball consistently with present pull side pop, registering a 91 mph exit velocity per TrackMan during BP. Hits from an open, balanced stance with quick hands through the zone. Controls the game well behind the dish and showed a quick catch and release (1.93-2.04 pop times).

Athletic, fundamental footwork in the outfield with a strong, accurate arm registering an 82 mph outfield velo. Also shows advanced speed with a 6.75 60 yard time.
