Top Uncommitted 2017 Catcher

With the 2015-2016 high school sports season as well as fall ball getting underway, PBR Maryland will take a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects from the 2016 and 2017 class at each position.

Now at the halfway point in this fall release we shift to the 2017 class. The fall is an important time for rising juniors to be sure to get their name out as a player to watch for the upcoming high school season. We will look to create a few top uncommitted lists each week, as you can see by our 2017 Rankings there are numerous talented prospect still available.

6.30.15 - Solid frame at 6-foot 190-pounds.  Short arm action with a quick exchange. Throws had some carry on them with a velocity up to 73 mph. Pop time was 2.15-2.28. As he straightens out with slight pause in exchange to release pop time will lower. Hits from a balanced set up with high hands and tall stance. Fluid rhythm in load to foot strike. Short bat path with quick bat speed and rhythm in swing. Exit velocity up to 87 mph and a home to first time of 4.74.  Ran a 7.92 60-yard dash.

7.7.15 - Solid, athletic frame at 5-foot-10 190-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up. Nice rhythm in swing. Short bat path with quick bat speed. Smooth load and medium stride. Good balance in swing. Exit Velocity of 86 mph.Quick exchange behind the plate. Soft hands. Would like to see less movements receiving. Gets rid of the ball and throws had some carry on them. Pop time got as low as 1.97. Catcher velocity of 73 mph. Ran a 7.57 60-yard dash.

6.30.15 - Quick feet and exchange from behind the plate. Gains ground on throws. Throws had some carry on them at 73 mph. Pop time ranged from 2.03 to 2.13. Better posture on throws could increase velocity. Average hands receiving and shows some body control behind the dish. Hits from a slightly open setup with a simple stride.  Level swing path with some bat speed. Gets slightly uphill at times on swing. Gets lower half into swing. Has balance and occasionally will get out of balance. Gap-to-gap style hitter that with potential pull side pop. 4.69 home to first and 85 mph exit velocity.

Other Names to watch:

Delaware has two talented backstops in Colin Adams at Caravel Academy and Brock Nowell at Conrad HS. Other players to keep an eye on are Tripp Kimmell (No. 58, Milford HS), Ian Clements (Bishop McNamara) and Clarence (Tre) Armstrong (No.68, Sanford).
