With the turning of the calendar a new year is upon us and the spring high school baseball season is just around the corner (believe it or not)! Today we begin a series of stories entitled "Spring Forward" where we highlight some of the top players, programs, and conferences across a variety of categories for the upcoming 2020 season. 

Our Spring Forward series begins with a look at some of the fastest and most electric prospects to catch play in 2020. Whether their ability to save runs defensively or get on base and make things happen, these prospects will play a key role in their team's success in 2020. Be sure to follow our Spring Forward series as we continue to highlight some of the top players, programs, and conferences through a variety of categories. 

 

SPEEDSTERS TO WATCH IN 2020

 

Khalik Beasley OF / CAMBRIDGE - SOUTH DORCHESTER, MD / 2020 Cambridge-South Dorchester suffered a heart-breaking one-run loss to St. Michaels in last year’s 1A East Sectional Semi-finals. For the Vikings to get over the hump in 2020 they will lean once again on the superb athletic ability of uncommitted senior outfielder Khalik Beasley who stole 20 bases, scored 20 runs and hit .397.

Dhane Blair OF / OF / St. Mary's, MD / 2020 Blair ran a 6.69 at this summer’s Top Prospect Games East and shortly thereafter committed to Frostburg State. He was also pretty impressive at the plate showing some explosiveness and ability to use the whole field. We expect to see him patrolling the outfield for the Saints in 2020 while setting the table at the top of the lineup and causing havoc on the bases in the MIAA.

Haden Hoff OF / C / Westminster , MD / 2020 Westminster struggled early last season but turned the corner around the mid-way point of the season eventually falling to defending 3A state champion Thomas Johnson in the West Region Final 2-0. Hoff can be a game-changer on the bases with his 6.75 speed and is versatile enough to play several positions for the Owls. Look for Hoff to have a big season in Carroll County coming off of his recent commitment to Fairmont State.

Corey Jamison C / 3B / Williamsport, MD / 2020 Shepherd commit Corey Jamison was coming off an injury this fall when we saw him run a 6.69 at the Funkstown Legion Scout Day. The senior catcher possesses a rare combination of speed and power and will play a huge role in Williamsport's lineup. Look for a healthy Jamison to lead the Wildcats in multiple ways in 2020 as they look to contend in the Central Maryland Conference - Gambrill Division.

Cam Jones, Jr OF / OF / Bishop McNamara, MD / 2022 Jones played some as a freshman last season at La Plata but has since transferred to Bishop McNamara where he will look to be a table-setter for the Mustangs in 2020. The left-handed hitting class of 2022 outfielder blew up on the summer circuit running multiple sub 6.7 60’s including a 6.62 at the PBR Maryland MoCo Fall Trials. While Jones’ speed is impressive, so too are his hands and overall upside at the plate.

Ehi Okojie OF / OF / Home School, MD / 2021 Uncommitted 2021 outfielder Ehi Okojie’s tools are off the charts as witnessed by those in attendance at this past summer’s PBR Future Games at LakePoint. Okojie ran a 6.72 60-yard time, threw 87 mph from the outfield and recorded a 101 mph exit velocity. He was home-schooled in 2019 but there is speculation we may see him at River Hill this high school season. If that is the case, he is surely a player you won’t want to miss playing in 2020.

Dwayne Preston II OF / DeMatha Catholic , MD / 2021 Preston impressed many this summer at the PBR Maryland Top Prospect Games with his 6.76 speed and impressive power at the plate. With several other older high profile players at DeMatha, Preston can seemingly get overlooked. We expect him to play a large role for the Stags though as they hope to dethrone St. John’s (DC) for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title in 2020.

Prince Proctor OF / SS / Urbana, MD / 2021 Proctor ran the fastest 60-time of all Maryland high school players recorded by Prep Baseball Report this year at 6.44. The uncommitted 2021 outfielder will look to make more of an impact in the lineup and for sure on the bases for the Hawks this season as they look to contend once again for a county title in the always tough Central Maryland Conference.

Zach Senders SS / Bullis, MD / 2020 Look for Washington and Lee commit Zach Senders to have a big season for Bullis in 2020. The senior shortstop blazed a 6.60, 60-yard time at this summer’s Top Prospect Games West and can really swing it at the plate. Senders is one of the top players to watch in the Interstate Athletic Conference this season and the Bulldogs will need his leadership if they hope to contend for the title.

Mekhi Stevens SS / OF / Randallstown , MD / 2020 Stevens played a huge role last season on the Ram’s MPSSAA 1A North Region Championship team. The senior infielder was electric on the base paths swiping 34 bags and scoring 45 runs while hitting .438 at the plate. Stevens is one of the most impactful players in the state for his high school team and Randallstown will need him to have another big season if they hope to make it back-to-back trips to the State Semi-finals.

TJ Williams OF / LHP / Georgetown Prep, MD / 2020 Notre Dame commit TJ Williams was a huge run producer for the Hoyas in 2019 and will look to replicate that this season for the defending Interstate Athletic Conference champions. The senior outfielder stole 16 bases and scored 37 runs a season ago to go along with his 33 doubles and .454 batting average. Expect Williams to again be one of the key cogs in the lineup this year as Georgetown Prep looks to make it back-to-back titles.

Jackie Zebron OF / C / Colonel Richardson, MD / 2020 The Colonels will look to Zebron as the spark-plug and leader in 2020 after losing several key players from last year’s undefeated 24-0 MPSSAA 1A State Championship team. The uncommitted senior outfielder broke out last season hitting .438 with 32 hits, scored 22 runs and swiped 12 bags. They will need him to have a similar season in 2020 if they want a chance to repeat.
